One of the unique features of the Nintendo Switch is the fact that it can either be played on the TV as a home console or with the Joy-Con controllers attached as a handheld console. This makes the console really versatile and fun for a wide variety of gamers to enjoy.
The Joy-Con controllers come in a wide variety of different colors and sometimes even patterns with Nintendo occasionally releasing new ones in celebration of certain games. Although the ones that Nintendo sells officially with the Switch or as extra accessories are definitely a very cool way to change up your console's look, there are some people that prefer to get a little creative with completely custom Joy-Cons that they paint on themselves. Some of these custom Joy-Con designs are just too cool not to see!
10 Wood Paneled
Made by Instagram user @Technically_Geek, these Joy-Cons are a complete departure from the regular Joy-Cons that come in solid, bright colors. Although having bright colored Joy-Con controllers can be fun and eye-catching, these are painted to look like pieces of real wood and have white covers on the buttons to add some extra contrast and detail.
9 A Full Custom Zelda Design
This custom Joy-Con design was created by Redditor ForeverEndeavors who went all-out with their Nintendo Switch customization. Along with a custom leather case that goes around the main body and screen of the console, this Zelda fan completely custom painted each of the Joy-Con controllers. One has iconic images from The Legend of Zelda franchise while the other is plain wood grain.
8 Double Pastel Purple
These custom Joy-Cons were made by @DreamyChocobo on Instagram. Although they're somewhat simple because they're both just solid pastel purple, any serious Nintendo Switch fan will know that buying custom Joy-Con controllers is the only way to get two purple Joy-Con controllers. A brighter purple Joy-Con is sold in a set with a neon orange one, but these matching pastel purple ones look so much nicer.
7 Rainbow All Day
Made by @MrSpaceHeater, these custom Joy-Con controllers are perfect for people that really like to stand out and definitely don't just want to pick a single color for each Joy-Con they have attached to their Switch.
These custom Joy-Con controllers are painted with a smooth, rainbow gradient that has little flecks of glitter and sparkle in the paint to add some extra shine to the controllers. The colors blend together so smoothly and it really pops against the black buttons.
6 For Animal Crossing Fans
@Pin_Hound on Instagram made this totally awesome controller that's perfect for Animal Crossing fans. Although Nintendo released an official limited edition Switch console for the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it sold out pretty quickly after release. This console has the same pastel green and purple Joy-Con controllers that came with that switch, but this time with leaves painted all over and paw covers on the sticks.
5 The Atomic Rainbow
Created by Reddit user Yung_Elon, this lineup of custom Joy-Con controllers is a reference to the classic Atomic Purple version of the Game Boy Color. This handheld console's bright purple, semi-transparent case was totally popular in the 90s when the console was released and many people have replaced their Joy-Con shells with similar clear, purple plastic. Instead of sticking with just purple, this Switch fan made a whole rainbow of custom Joy-Con controllers.
4 Pikachu & The Mew Duo
AtomicUnagi on Reddit made this pair of custom Joy-Con controller sets. These are a lot more simplistic than a lot of other designs that Joy-Con customizers make, but they're definitely very cool and would be a total hit with any Pokémon fans. The yellow set has Pikachu on one Joy-Con and Pikachu's tail on the other, while the other set comes in pink and purple with Mew and Mewtwo on the bottom of each Joy-Con.
3 Chrome Accents
@Technically_Geek on Instagram made this set of custom Joy-Con controllers. These controllers have a smooth gradient from a bright, light blue to a pastel purple. Although some of the buttons on these custom Joy-Con controllers are the standard black, a few of them have been changed to make this set of custom controllers even more awesome.
Instead of the regular black buttons that are normally on Joy-Con controllers, these buttons were swapped out for a set of purple chrome ones that accent the purple half of the gradient.
2 Luigi Green
Created by Instagram user @CptnAlex, these custom Joy-Con controllers are totally perfect for anyone that has always preferred Luigi to his big brother Mario. This set of custom Joy-Con controllers has a bright green theme that's half opaque and half transparent with dripping spots making up the transition between the two finishes, making it look extra awesome.
