It seems that Rebecca Black knew what she was talking about back in 2011, as the Nintendo Switch has had its best week of sales ever in the United States of America following Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

The Nintendo Switch has become a huge hit for the company and the sales numbers are incredibly impressive for a system that was released in 2017. As of the time of writing, the Nintendo Switch has sold over forty million units, putting it within spitting distance of the Xbox One (which was released back in 2013) and closing in on the sales figures of the Super Nintendo.

Thanksgiving was incredibly kind to Nintendo, as Business Wire is reporting that the Nintendo Switch had its best-ever week of sales in the United States of America in the period from November 24 to 30. The Nintendo Switch sold over 800,000 units during this period alone, thanks to a variety of Black Friday deals.

The popularity of the Nintendo Switch can be attributed to multiple factors. The recent release of Pokémon Sword & Shield was likely a huge sales boost for the console, especially as those games have already sold over six million copies since their debut. The first mainline entries in the Pokémon series on a home console was likely a big draw for many people who were holding out on purchasing a Nintendo Switch. There is also the cheaper Nintendo Switch Lite model to take into consideration, as well as a bundle that came with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which is still the best-selling game on the system.

There were many people who had reservations going into the release of the Nintendo Switch, especially following the failure of the Nintendo Wii U to win an audience. The Nintendo Switch has shattered expectations and is now winning back the ground lost to Microsoft and Sony over the past few years, even though the system doesn't have its Animal Crossing or Metroid Prime games yet. The Nintendo Switch might face stiffer competition at the end of 2020 in the run up to when the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett, are released, but Nintendo is currently poised to take the holiday 2019 season from the competition.
