Back in 2011, Bandai Namco released Go Vacation. It was a party game, featuring over 50 activities with varying themes - like skydiving, beach volleyball, and mini golf. Today, Nintendo announced that Go Vacation would be getting ported to the Switch.

This will come as a surprise to many, as Go Vacation didn't leave a particularly powerful impact when it came out. It has received "mixed or average reviews," according to Metacritic, with a score of 64. Nintendo however has always been a family-oriented company, and has released many games like Go Vacation. Wii Sports is generally liked, and that game got a sequel in the form of Wii Sports Resort. There was also Carnival Games, which was obviously low budget, but delivered simplistic fun. The Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games series also serves the purpose of delivering many types of games in one package. These type of mini-game filled experiences are perfect for families.

However, there can be a negative side to having a package full of mini-games. Many z-grade, or rather shovelware games, the worst of the worst, appeared on the Wii system. For a few examples, there was Pirate’s Quest: Hunt for Blackbeard’s BootyMonkey Mischief! Party TimeCasper's Scare School: Spooky Sports Day, and Block Party. You might not have heard of these titles, and for good reason: these games are poorly made and have been found in the bargain bin at GameStop.

While not as acclaimed as Wii Sports or Wii Sports Resort (Resort has an impressive score of 80 on Metacritic), Go Vacation is reasonably liked and looks like a game with a little more thought put into it than the aforementioned shovelware titles. The trailer highlights activities within the "marine resort," "snow resort," "mountain resort," and "city resort." While Go Vacation will probably do little to showcase the graphical capability of the Switch, it is important to remember that this game is not aimed at core gamers. This should be a decent holdover until Nintendo releases the next Mario Party installment.

According to Nintendo, players will be able to revisit, or for the first time, travel to Kawawii Island in Go Vacation for Switch on July 27th.
