If you've recently purchased a Nintendo Switch Lite, or are planning to, and have no idea how to transfer your data and game saves from your old Switch, we've got you covered.

The Nintendo Switch Lite hit stores last week and chances are some of you may already own one. For the most part, Nintendo's target audience with the new version of the Switch is those who don't already own a regular one. However, there will be a number of people who want to replace their current/old Switch with a brand new Switch Lite.

Those people will presumably want to transfer their data and game saves from their Switch to their Switch Lite. It can be done, but the process if a little more cumbersome than we'd like. Fear not, as this article will take you through how to do it step-by-step. First thing's first, make sure both consoles are on system menu 4.0 version or better. The Lite already will be, so you'll just need to check your original Switch.

It's also important to ensure you have both Switches when making the transfer. We say this in case you are planning on trading your old model in. Once you have both to hand, ensure both are connected to WiFi. Take the original console, head to System Settings, then Users, and finally Transfer Your User Data. Continue to follow the on-screen prompts and when asked to designate a console, select Source Console.

Now it's the Lite's time to shine. Follow all the same steps as you did with the original console until you return to the screen asking you to designate a console. This time, select Target System instead. You'll then be asked to sign in to your Nintendo account (make sure its the one you want to transfer data from), hit Next, and switch back to the source console.

Once the source finds its target, hit Transfer. All you'll need to do then is wait. The amount of time it takes for the transfer to complete depends on your WiFi strength and the amount of data you have on your Switch. The one downfall is the transfer won't include digital games you have purchased from the eShop. You'll need to redownload those games separately from the Nintendo eShop on the Switch Lite.
