What better way to play classic NES games on Nintendo Switch than with classic NES controllers, and now gamers can get them half price.

Whether a customer picks one console over another can depend on any manner of things, from price, title available, and reviews from other owners. It depends on what that particular customer is looking to get from his or her potential console. It's not discussed enough, but that decision might well come down to the design of a console's controllers.

PlayStation nailed its controller design early on. At least that's what Sony seems to believe. Other than the quick addition of analog sticks and a slight tweak of the shoulder buttons, PlayStation's present-day controllers are pretty much the same as the ones it first introduced to the world in 1994. Xbox has been a little more erratic, but nowhere close to indecisiveness that Nintendo has shown.

In Nintendo's defense, the company's constantly changing controllers are more a sign of evolution and innovation than indecisiveness. With each new Nintendo console comes a completely redesigned controller. That brings with it certain issues, especially with the Switch. Since Switch owners can now play NES and SNES games on the new console, they ideally want to do so with the controllers intended for those retro games.

Well, fear not, as Nintendo is aware of this and has us covered. It has classic NES controllers that are compatible with the Switch for sale on its website. They come in packs of two, and the best news of all? Buy a two-pack right now and you'll get them half price. The double pack of classic NES controllers is $29.99 at the moment on the Nintendo website, down from the RRP of $59.99.

Anyone who has had to part with their hard-earned cash to get their hands on a new controller will know $29.99 for two of them is an absolute steal. One new wireless PS4 controller will likely set you back at least $59.99. This is bad news for someone who might want to play a game locally with a friend. Plus, as doable as playing NES games with a Switch joy-con is, there's nothing like going back in time and using the intended hardware for those titles.
