It's been revealed that Nintendo's recent permanent price cut for the Nintendo Switch will only apply to European countries and that the publisher has no plans to reduce the price in the United States. This news comes from Axios Gaming newsletter co-author Stephen Tolito who explains that Nintendo doesn't plan to expand the price cut to anywhere outside of Europe.

With the news that the Switch is getting a price cut in Europe, many in the US were likely expecting a price cut as well. Nintendo is still expected to launch its new OLED Switch model next month, and claimed that the release of the new model along with exchange rates were the reason behind the drop in price.

While this seems fairly anti-consumer for Nintendo's US customers on the surface, the shift in exchange rates means that Nintendo is simply reducing the price of the Nintendo Switch to bring it closer to the price of the Switch in the US.

It's unknown as to whether Nintendo plans to reduce the price of the standard Nintendo Switch even further, but it seems that right now the company has no plans to do so. Due to the constant popularity of the Nintendo Switch, it would make very little sense for Nintendo to reduce the price any further until a more powerful Switch is planned to release.

For now, Nintendo is gearing up to launch the Nintendo Switch OLED model which is still expected to launch on October 8 later this year. The system comes with a slightly bigger OLED display, an internal memory of 64GB, and a snazzy new dock. According to UK retailer GAME, the system will cost you $349.99/£309.99.
