The Nintendo Switch could be getting a pretty significant price cut next week with signs pointing towards it selling for €50 less than its regular retail price.

The Nintendo Switch has been on the market for more than four years yet shows no signs of going away anytime soon based on its sales. Nintendo revealed earlier this year that the console has now sold in excess of 89 million units. That currently makes the Switch the seventh best-selling console of all time with it needing to take down the Wii to break the top six.

The Switch might be helped towards that goal as Nintendalerts reports it will receive its first-ever price cut in Europe next week. The regular model has retailed for €330 since launch, but may well be reduced to €270, perhaps in preparation for the launch of the OLED model next month.

Neither Nintendo nor any other official source has confirmed European Nintendo fans will be able to pick up a Switch for €50 less next week. However, the source is the same Twitter account that accurately predicted Sony would be selling limited edition Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart PS5 bundles earlier this year. If the Switch's price is reduced, it's not necessarily due to the imminent arrival of the OLED alone.

It could also be due to an abundance of stock. In the same report that Nintendo boasted the Switch has shipped 89 million units, it also revealed its sales are down 21% year-on-year. That's largely due to the inflated number of people who picked one up as most of the world went into lockdown in 2020. It may well have resulted in Nintendo overestimating how many consoles it would need this year, though.

If you live in Europe and you were thinking of picking up a Switch this weekend, it's probably worth holding off until Monday to see if the price cut happens. The €50 you save could buy you an extra game. Warioware: Get It Together comes out this weekend, or you could tuck that money away until Metroid Dread launches next month.
