In this week's latest issue of Famitsu Magazine, publisher Koei Tecmo shared a plethora of screenshots for Nioh 2. Sequel to the hit 2017 Team Ninja developed Souls-like, these new screens feature Yoshimoto Imagawa, a Daimyo warrior that players will encounter at various points during the story. There's also a good look at some of the various creatures that will be plaguing Edo period Japan.

Along with all of that, there's a pretty good first look at the different boss battles that players will butt heads with. Looking to expand the size and scope over the original, these enemies showcase a larger diversity of designs than in the original title. They also seem to be drawing more from Japanese folklore, which will slot in nicely with Nioh 2's period setting.

For those not up on the latest with Nioh 2, Team Ninja's hotly-anticipated follow-up will be a prequel to the original title. Loosely based on an unfinished Akira Kurosawa script, Nioh followed the story of Japanese historical figure William Adams in his journey to reunite with Yokai spirit Saoirse after a chance encounter with the sorcerer Edward Kelley. It took place during the late 1500's and dealt with the succession to the late Oda Nobunaga's throne and the different warring factions at the time.

Nioh 2, on the other hand, features a very much alive Nobunaga and is set nearly 50 years prior to the events of the first game. New to Nioh 2 will be a character creator, which will let players put their own personality on display while taking down historical figures. 2's plot will likely cover why the influx of Yokai in Japan needed to be swiftly dealt with during the original, as well as show characters like Hattori Hanzo gaining prominence in Tokugawa Ieyasu's personal fleet.

Currently, Nioh 2 is planned for a 2020 release on PS4. A PC port happened for the original game, as well as three different DLC expansions. A similar plan is likely being considered for 2, thanks in part to the popularity of the model for the original. We'll learn more as we get closer to release.
