If you're still on the fence about Nioh 2 and missed all of its previous beta periods, Team Ninja is throwing you a bone. Called the "Last Chance Trial," players will get to sample a near completed version of Nioh 2 ahead of its March 13, 2020, release. The demo will be open to everyone on PS4, no PlayStation Plus subscription required.
Running from February 28 at 12:00 am PST until March 1 at 11:59 pm PST, you'll simply need to go to the PlayStation store when everything is live and download the client. From there, you'll be ready to tackle brand new yokai in battle and try out the yokai transformations that make up a big part of Nioh 2's combat. You'll also probably die a lot, since this is a Souls-like game, after all.
This new beta will feature three main missions for players to best. You'll travel Mount Tenno and face brand new foes as you attempt to master new weapons. Game progress won't carry over to the full game, but your created character's appearance can be saved. That's neat, especially with how in-depth Team Ninja has made the system.
With Nioh 2 being gold and everything going well, it's unlikely that this beta phase will be used for further tweaking. Team Ninja is probably doing this as a thank you to fans for making Nioh a successful brand. It's rare that a new IP can launch in a console generation and generate so much hype, but Nioh somehow did it.
That's great, too. With FromSoftware stepping away from the Dark Souls brand and creating new stuff, fans are looking for similar games to fill the void. Nioh is the closest any other developer has gotten to replicating Dark Souls. In some ways, it's even better -though mainly with regards to combat-.
Nioh 2 looks to be another winning game for Team Ninja. It may currently be a PS4 exclusive, but there's a high chance that this sequel will get ported to PC. The original had about a six month gap between its release. I think I'll be able to wait that long, especially with everything else releasing in March.
