No Man’s Sky is already a remarkable game for being available on so many platforms, from PC to PS4 and pretty soon the Nintendo Switch. But unlike many other games, No Man’s Sky is also available to play in VR either on PSVR, SteamVR, or Windows Mixed Reality. The VR experience adds an entirely new level of immersion to an already exceptional simulation, and it’s about to receive a big boost on the PSVR 2.

Last night’s State of Play came with a trailer for No Man’s Sky’s planned PSVR 2 upgrade. The graphics are a definite improvement over the PSVR version, and it looks like Hello Games has plans to make use of the new-and-improved PlayStation VR hardware.

"To experience No Man’s Sky in PS VR was a minor miracle, such was the technical challenge we faced bringing an infinite seamless universe into the futuristic headset," wrote Hello Games Studio head Sean Murray on PlayStation Blog. "Several years later, the technology has taken another major leap forward such that, now, we have the opportunity to immerse the player to a whole new level.

"The power of PlayStation 5, coupled with the all-new PlayStation VR2 hardware, including the new Sense controllers, combine to take that sense of immersion and believability up by several major notches."

Murray (who has absolutely no relation to this article's author) didn't provide any specifics, although he did note that No Man's Sky has received quite a few updates since the release of Beyond in 2019.

PC No Man's Sky fans might also experience some benefits thanks to the PSVR 2 upgrade. In a statement to IGN, Murray added "this will be a moment for us to focus on VR players of all types."

No Man's Sky's most recent update started Expedition 7: Leviathan, a brand-new adventure that not only adds an enormous space whale but also adds a mysterious time loop that turns the game into a roguelike. There’s still four weeks left to complete Leviathan and add this living frigate to your trading fleet.
