No Man’s Sky hit a milestone today. Just over five years since the game was released way back in 2016, No Man’s Sky has finally become a Mostly Positive game on Steam with the recent release of the Frontiers update.

It’s a redemption story unlike any other in gaming. From the biggest disappointment gaming had ever seen (up until Cyberpunk 2077 came along, of course), No Man’s Sky suffered a Mostly Negative review score when it first arrived. But Hello Games didn’t let a little thing like the entire world’s derision keep them from turning No Man’s Sky into the great game it was always meant to be.

First it was the Atlas Rises update, then it was Next, then Abyss, then Visions, then Beyond, then Synthesis, then Living Ships, then Exo Mech, Crossplay, Desolation, Origins, Next Generations, Companions, Expeditions, Prisms, and finally Frontiers. Each update fixed what was wrong, added what was missing, and then expanded on No Man’s Sky far beyond what Hello Games first envisioned. Truly, No Man’s Sky is now a game of infinite possibilities.

And with each generation, No Man’s Sky went from Mostly Negative to Mixed to now Mostly Positive. That’s where at least 70% of all user reviews are positive. However, we should note that No Man’s Sky’s recent reviews have remained in the Very Positive range (where recent reviews are over 90% positive) for the past year or so. There was just a LOT of negativity for No Man’s Sky to overcome from its early days.

Given another five years, we fully expect Hello Games to drag No Man’s Sky into the Overwhelmingly Positive range.

The latest No Man’s Sky update, Frontiers, adds settlement management to your infinite procedurally generated universe. It can be a bit of a pain getting your settlement to stop losing money and start turning a profit, but the adoration of a town full of simulated aliens is all the reward you’ll need.
