Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will add a limited-time spirit board this week to celebrate the launch of No More Heroes 3.

Summer is almost over. Bad news for beachgoers but good news for gamers. The last couple of months have been typically quiet when it comes to big releases, but that's all about to change over the coming weeks. Things get off to a steady restart this week via the release of Psychonauts 2, and also the arrival of No More Heroes 3 on Nintendo Switch.

If you don't plan on spending your entire weekend playing No More Heroes, or you'll need a break every now and then, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is holding a special in-game event to mark the occasion. The addition of a limited-time spirit board on August 27, the same day No More Heroes 3 is released.

No More Heroes has a somewhat limited representation in Smash Ultimate, so the addition of some spirits inspired by the series will likely be welcomed by fans of both games. The spirit board will be active until August 30, although it's highly likely the spirits will be attainable again at some point in the future. The bad news is many believe it confirms the final character coming to Smash Ultimate will not be No More Heroes' Travis Touchdown.

Touchdown is sort of a playable character already, but only via a Mii costume. No More Heroes fans were hopeful the series' lead would make the cut with one more spot left unoccupied. The announcement that No More Heroes is getting a spirit board now makes that eventuality unlikely, but not impossible. The announcement of the final DLC character is likely pretty close at this point though, and most will be hoping it is reserved for a more well-known entity.

The usual suspects will do the rounds when speculation ramps up. Crash Bandicoot, Master Chief, or perhaps Waluigi will finally get the Smash treatment he has deserved for years at this point. The Mushroom Kingdom's oft-forgotten black sheep warrants a spot alongside Wario and co, but odds are he isn't going to get it. For now, enjoy the No More Heroes spirit board event this weekend, and No More Heroes 3 if you plan on picking it up.
