Nomura has said that he thought Yozora wasn't well-received when he was introduced in Kingdom Hearts 3.

In typical Kingdom Hearts fashion, one of the weirdest things to come out of the series in recent memory is Yozora, a character voice by child Disney star Dylan Sprouse that first appeared in an advert for a video game called Verum Rex in the Toy Story universe. For god knows what reason, he looks like a mix of Sora and Riku, and knows who Sora is, taking him on in a fight that Sora surely loses.

In an interview with Famitsu that was later translated by Kingdom Hearts Insider, Nomura was asked about the Nameless Star character that appeared in Kingdom Hearts 3 and Melody of Memory. Many have theorised that Nameless Star is the girl that Yozora is seen chasing in the Verum Rex trailer, but that hasn't been confirmed. On the topic, Nomura said, "That is still a secret. As I said at the event, there was a time when I wasn't sure whether I would choose Kingdom Hearts 4 or Verum Rex as my next project. However, she is a central Verum Rex character."

Nomura continued, speaking about the initial response to Yozora and Verum Rex, "There seems to be a lot of anticipation for VERUM REX overseas. When Yozora was first introduced in Kingdom Hearts 3, I got the impression that his reception was less than welcoming, but I guess that was not the case."

Although Yozora was a confusing character for many players of Kingdom Hearts 3, it's not clear where Nomura is getting this negative reception idea from, as he was barely featured in Kingdom Hearts 3. He's an incredibly tough boss in the Re:Mind DLC, which can cause some frustration for players, but most Kingdom Hearts fans respect the challenge of the fight and how well put together it is.

From Nomura's mention of Yozora in this interview about Kingdom Hearts 4, and his importance in the ending of Re:Mind, it seems very likely that we'll be seeing more of the character in the future.
