Between Amazon's constant stream of PS5 thefts and eBay customers getting concrete blocks in place of shiny next-gen consoles, it shouldn't come as a surprise that there are heists over RTX cards now, with a staggering 40 boxes stolen from a Chinese warehouse.
Scalpers and bots are nabbing these sparkly new graphics cards before customers even get a chance unless you have the internet speed and reflexes of the Flash, but now it's being taken to the next level as $340,000 worth of merchandise was swiped from an MSI warehouse.
Due to the high security, with video surveillance and constant truck checks at the docks, MSI believes that the heist was an inside job. Whether the local authorities are on board with this theory is unknown, but they do have a reward for anybody who has information on the culprits - $15,000 to be precise.
RTX 3090s are fetching quite a high price right now online as, much like with the PS5 and Xbox Series X, they're being sold at much higher prices than retail. At the moment, they can fetch upwards of $2,000. With 220 units stolen, that's a lot of cash to be made.
Generously enough, MSI has offered clemency to any participant as long as they come forward and help to bring the stolen cards back. Perhaps if they go through the police, they'll even manage to net that prize pool and get themselves a card regardless.
With computing tech getting better and better and offering a new breath of fresh air in the gaming sphere, with ray-tracing and hyper-fast loading times, toppled with low stock and higher prices on resale, it's no wonder that so many of these goodies are being stolen or 'lost', but hopefully that gets left behind with the rest of the mess that is 2020 come the new year.
