Observer: System Redux is an enhanced edition of the original, complete with all sorts of new bells and whistles like 4K resolutions and ray-tracing. All the new storyline content, though, is the big draw for fans of the original.

Any new narrative additions come as a surprise considering Rutger Hauer, the legendary actor that voiced Daniel, passed away last year. Not only that, Daniel shares Hauer's likeness. So Bloober Team had to utilize unused recordings from Hauer to make the new cases coalesce with the existing storyline.

“Sadly, there wasn't much unused footage to add to the game," Piotr Babieno, Bloober Team CEO, explains in and interview with IGN. "But what we had was enough to give Dan Lazarski a chance to uncover a few new cases.”

In Her Fearful Symmetry, one of these new cases, Daniel finds odd symbols scattered about the hallways of a sleazy motel. On closer inspection, he finds a disturbing message from an author longing for a mysterious woman. Fearing for her safety, Daniel sets out in search of this woman to ensure she's not dealing with a stalker.

You can see a sneak-peak at this quest in the video below:

It's too early to say how well Hauer's unused lines will be retrofitted into every new case. However, based on this developer walkthrough, Bloober Team have made it work in Her Fearful Symmetry — even if Daniel seems less chatty than normal. Either way, it's good to know that they didn't try recast the character despite Hauer's passing. Here's to hoping that it's a seamless integration for the other new cases as well.

If you're interested in giving Observer: System Redux a shot, there's a demo on Steam along with a pre-purchase option for $29.99. The game itself will also be available day-of on both PS5 and Xbox Series X for their respective launches.
