One of the best parts about Octopath Traveler 2 is that the game is filled to the brim with engaging stories. While some side missions lead to notable weapons and armor, other missions simply help to enhance the game’s lore. Many characters you meet in Octopath Traveler 2 have their own set of problems that your party can fix if they decide to lend a hand.

If you choose to leave the characters as they are, you can do that too. Not all side missions in Octopath Traveler 2 are equally good; some are much more enjoyable than others. Let's break down the absolute best side quests in the game.

9 Lingering Love

What’s an RPG without a love story? This side mission is found in Stormhail, where your team meets a heartbroken woman wearing a valuable necklace. Apparently, someone named Eugis left the woman with nothing more than the necklace, which led her to wonder what she should do with all her love for him.

This side mission can be resolved in two ways. The woman can let go of the necklace and her romantic feelings for Eugis. As a result, you gain the treasured necklace. Alternatively, You can lead Eugis, who is in Crestland’s Merry HIlls, back to the woman. This causes a peaceful expression to appear over the woman’s face. As a reward for performing this side mission, you get an alluring ribbon and a whopping 14,000 leaves if you bring them together.

8 The Runaways

The mission is given to you by a Ranch Owner in Oresrush, a town in the wildlands. A horse thief took the Ranch Owner’s horses. You can bring the ranch owner to Oresrush to the Horse Lender on the east of Ku. If you follow this path, the fate of the horse’s remains uncertain.

The second option is to knock out the man who stole the horses outside the town of Wellgrove in the Leaflands region at night. This is the better option because it leads to 20,000 leaves and a Light Nut.

7 Misha’s Next Chapter

To obtain this side mission, you need to collect information from the Wellgrove garbage collector and the man in a brown coat at night and return this data to Misha. In exchange for this mission, you obtain 15,000 leaves and a butler’s tailcoat. One of the best things about this mission is it’s relatively simple and pays well.

Misha tells you she’d like to know about Alrond’s nighttime activities because he is sneaking out at night. After giving Misha the information, she asks you to sit and wait for Alrond's return. While Misha accuses Alrond of cleaning up trash at night, he reveals that he goes treasure hunting at night. A word of caution, though, perform this side mission after you complete Partitio’s story. This way, you can hire Aldron to obtain consistent 100x JP and EXP boosts.

6 Alpione’s Next Chapter

Appearing after completing Ochette’s storyline, Alpione’s quest in Gravell is another easy one with a high payoff. He asks you to collect information from a merchant at Western Gravell Wilds and return this data to him. In exchange, Alpine gives you 10,000 leaves and Alpione’s Amulet, which gives you +1,200 health. Wearing the amulet, you can also deal more damage when your HP is low. The amulet can also be sold for 4,000 leaves.

All you need to do is exit Gravel, head down a flight of stairs, and look for the merchant. You discover that the merchant sells monster parts for money and seeks someone to help him hunt monsters. When you tell Alpione about the hunting request, he’s less than thrilled with the information. Alpione views this type of hunting as killing creatures no one needs to eat and uses this as evidence that humans are greedy. Alpine later chases off the merchants.

5 Ghormf!

Found in Nameless Village, Ghormf! requires you to attract a male beastling to the man who gives you the quest. The beastling unusually speaks an ancient language. The only words anyone understands from the beast’s ancient language is “thank you.”

As a reward for guiding the beast to the man, he gives you 10,000 leaves and a Stupefying Stone Axe. The Stupefying Stone Axe offers +297 critical damage and an attack effect that confuses the target. This is an enjoyable side mission because it’s so bizarre. After all, it’s based on a nonsense word and features a beast and ancient language. The rewards are nice too.

4 Veronica’s Next Chapter

In New Delsta, Veronica asks you to collect information from Platt’s wife, who can be found in Sai, and return this information. This might be another collect and return information quest, but it nets you 12,000 leaves and the bodyguard’s vantage.

Finding Platt’s wife can be challenging. After going to Sai, you’ll need to head to the orphanage in the eastern section of town. This is a heart-touching side mission. After all, Platt’s orphanage is given over so a theme park can be built there. While it’s not the most subtle writing, when were JRPGs ever subtle?

2 The Missing Girl

This quest is given to you as a side mission by a concerned mother. To complete “The Missing Girl,” you must locate the Ivory Ravine within the West Gravell Wilds. You must defeat the monster found in the dungeon and return the missing girl to her mother. The girl’s mother gives you 15,000 leaves and the sister’s amulet as a reward.

After defeating the monster, the lost girl reveals she was looking for her big sister, who disappeared a month ago while studying rocks. While searching for her big sister, the monster attacked the lost girl. The lost girl then learns that the monster ate her sister. She then goes home to think she is breaking news to her mother of her sister's death, but the mother reveals she received a note and the sister's bracelet from a stranger. This is a great mission to the happy ending that the presumed monster-eaten sister is actually still alive.

1 Pearl Hunt

Located in Tropu’hopu, this side mission is given to you by a man searching for pearls. The man reveals that he accidentally broke his necklace and scattered his pearls. You will need to talk to people who picked up the pearls. If you obtain a “pretty pearl” and return it to the man, he gives you 15,000 leaves, Cupid’s Bow, and Empowering Lycee.

While you need to find only one pretty pearl, three can be found in total. One can be found at night with the fisherman in the northwesternmost house in Tropu’hopu. You can either entreat or mug the Fisherman to get back the pearl. A second pearl can be found from a beastling in the main section of town close to the merchants at night. The third can be found inside a red treasure chest on the east side of Tropu’hopu. You’ll need to deal with a man guarding a ladder to receive the pearl, though.
