The first trailer and screenshots for Oddworld: Soulstorm have arrived, plus a promised release of some time in 2020.

While most developers aim to please as many gamers as possible by releasing titles across multiple platforms, Sony has always been proud of its PlayStation exclusives, and this is as relevant today as it has ever been. The extremely successful Marvel's Spider-Man and God Of War are evidence that PlayStation really knows how to do exclusives right.

This is nothing new, either. PlayStation exclusives that debuted during the 1990s were so popular that they have been remade and released across all platforms in recent years. The two characters that immediately spring to mind when we say this are, of course, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. However, Abe of Oddworld fame should not be overlooked. Although the game was also released on PC, it is synonymous with the PS1.

In 2014, the original Oddworld game, Abe's Oddysee, was remade and released on the PS4 under the name New 'n' Tasty. Due to the success of the original and the remake, developers Just Add Water revealed that there would be four more follow-up games. The first of those follow-ups, Oddworld: Soulstorm was announced in 2016. Three years later, we finally have a trailer.

Soulstorm will loosely be based on the sequel to Abe's Oddysee, Exoddus. It will follow on from the ending of New 'n' Tasty in which (spoiler alert) Abe defeats Mollusk the Glukkon and leads 300 of his co-workers to freedom. Trouble is, their now former place of work, Rupture Farms, is based out in the middle of the desert. Soulstorm will focus in on Abe and his pals quest to make it safely out of the desert.

The above trailer also promises that Soulstorm will be released in 2020. We certainly hope that promise is kept, as we are eager to play the next chapter of the Oddworld story. Just Add Water still fully intends on this being a quintology. Hopefully, we won't have to wait as long for chapter three as we have done for Soulstorm.
