OfflineTV, everyone's favorite Los Angeles streaming conglomerate, just had a very peculiar encounter with the police. If you're out of the loop – Scarra, Pokimane, Fedmyster, LilyPichu, and Michael Reeves are among the Twitch content creators who occupy the Beverly Hills dwelling.
Essentially, Scarra was starting out his Teamfight Tactics stream when – only 10 minutes in – he was summoned by Pokimane. "Oh, I'll be right back guys," said a concerned Scarra, briefly abandoning his stream. After about 20 minutes, he returned and filled in viewers. Scarra and Fed's cars were broken into, and Pokimane's Postmates driver noticed and called the cops. When police arrived, they saw an oddly large amount of packages in their lawn (OfflineTV gets a lot of deliveries) and suspected that the house had been ransacked. Suspicious of the entire scene, the officers politely questioned the streamers and searched around before leaving.
"Oh, you guys are gamers." Guilty as charged, officer. It's good that nothing got out of hand. Scarra and Fed's cars were undamaged and almost nothing was taken (apparently just a basketball was missing from Scarra's car).
The most interesting part of the story, told from Scarra's perspective, was that the cops were "looking for f***ing dead bodies." Local authorities informed the roommates that it was pretty common for houses to get ransacked, apparently. One of the officers even went on the tell a story where "the murderer was eating cereal on the couch when they walked in." Fun stuff.
Normally, streamers will get visits from armed authorities for one of two reasons. One, the more innocent scenario, usually involves neighbors calling to complain about excessive noise – especially if the streamer is broadcasting from an apartment. The second scenario, a very serious situation, is when a streamer gets "swatted." Swatting is a horrific, dangerous prank that involves falsely reporting a bomb threat, pointing to a streamer's place of residence. Scarra said that he believed they'd been swatted when he first saw the armed officer in his living room. Thankfully, that was not the case.
As streaming picks up in popularity, streamer houses are becoming more of a normality. However, much of the world is still unaware of the culture that comes with the occupation, as Scarra's recent talk with police further revealed.
