Fans of One Piece have been getting to know the Straw Hat Pirates for nearly 30 years now, internalizing every character's little habits and idiosyncrasies. That's part of what gives the series its enduring appeal; you can begin to get an idea of what's going to happen next based on whatever boneheaded thing Luffy has done in previous similar situations.

Getting to control all the Straw Hats in One Piece Odyssey gives fans an opportunity to bond with their favorite characters in ways they may not have been able to previously, considering this is the series' first major RPG adaptation. If you have enough affinity with these characters, there are definitely a few things you'll want to do whenever you can.

1 Check The Minimap With Zoro

Zoro prepares a slash in One Piece Odyssey

One of Zoro's most prominent character traits, beyond his skill with three swords, is his complete lack of a sense of direction. The guy gets lost going up a staircase; if he's not following someone else, he will invariably wind up miles in the opposite direction from wherever he was trying to go.

Odds are good that the first time you get the chance to walk around the overworld with Zoro, your eyes will immediately dart to the minimap in the corner of the screen just to make sure it's still there and still accurate. Unlike in One Piece: World Seeker, the map still stays, but you can't deny you had the knee-jerk instinct to check.

2 Stretch Luffy's Arms

Luffy prepares Gum-Gum Pistol in One Piece Odyssey

Several people who have met Luffy over the course of One Piece have noted that he has a very "entertaining" body. Not unlike stretching and snapping a rubber band you find on the floor, there's just something inherently satisfying about stretching Luffy's rubber-powered limbs all over the place.

This is also why Luffy is the most practical character to explore with; with his stretchy arms, he can smash crates and grab items from a further distance than any other character, and he does so much more quickly. Even if you could just walk over and pick an item up, it's always more fun to stretch for it.

3 Use Sanji's Sky Walk

Sanji performs a Sky Walk to reach a ledge in One Piece Odyssey

During One Piece's two-year time skip, Sanji spent most of his time running away from the inhabitants of the Kamabakka Kingdom. In his own words, when he ran out of directions he could run in, he instinctively started running upward, inadvertently discovering how to perform his Sky Walk technique.

Considering the effort he went through to learn it and how cool it looks to do, you can't help but want to have Sanji Sky Walk whenever possible. Unfortunately, he doesn't get many chances to use it in Odyssey's story, but he does do a quick one whenever he climbs a ledge. It's a brief spectacle but always a welcome one.

4 Charge Franky's Cola

Franky charges up in One Piece Odyssey

Franky's advanced cyborg body is powered by whatever beverages he slots into his stomach-built refrigerator, with his highest power level coming from the fizzy might of cola. Whenever Franky refuels his cola, the sudden influx of power is so great, he just can't help but strike his signature pose.

In Odyssey, refueling Franky's cola gives him a stat boost for a few turns, powering up his other attacks. This means that not only is it an absolute sight to behold, but you get to behold it every time you want to power Franky up. Talk about a SUPER incentive.

5 Use Robin's Grab Whenever Possible

Robin performs Dos Fleur Grab in One Piece Odyssey

Despite how often it shows up in One Piece games, Robin only ever used her Dos Fleur: Grab technique once in the series: in order to... persuade Franky to join the crew. Nevertheless, the sheer spectacle of it has cemented it as one of her signature moves, which is probably why it's one of the first skills she learns in Odyssey.

Is it an ethical technique to use? Not really, and to be honest, we still wince every time we see it. But despite how terrifying it is, you just can't help to want to use it every time you're facing off against a foe it's effective on. Call it a low-hanging fruit, if you will.

6 Use Chopper's Monster Point Immediately

Monster Point Chopper roars in One Piece Odyssey

Prior to the time skip, whenever Chopper ate more than two of his homemade Rumble Balls, he'd transform into a gigantic, rampaging beast. Thanks to training and study, though, he can now maintain his sense of self in this form, transforming it into a potent weapon.

Not unlike the first time Franky ate a Rumble Ball in Chopper's body in the Punk Hazard arc, you kind of just want to see Monster Point as soon as you get access to it. It's even more practical in Odyssey than in the series because Chopper isn't paralyzed for an hour after reverting.

7 Spam Conquerer's Haki

Luffy uses Conquerer's Haki in One Piece Odyssey

The ability to use Conquerer's Haki is said to denote those with the qualities of a true king; their personal aura is so overpowering that weak-willed individuals and creatures can't even stay conscious under the weight of their mere presence.

As soon as you get the ability to use Conquerer's Haki with Luffy, you will undoubtedly use it on the very first foe to look at you funny. For the authentic Conquerer's Haki experience, play either "The Very Very Very Strongest" or "Overtaken" from the One Piece soundtrack.

8 Spam Usopp's Gag Moves

Usopp stretches a rubber band in One Piece Odyssey

While Usopp has grown well past his status as a wimpy gag character over the years, he's still quite adept at messing around, both for its own sake and for practical purposes. In Odyssey, this talent manifests in the form of special "gag" moves that only Usopp can use.

Gullible enemies can take remarkable damage just from Usopp flicking a Rubber Band in their faces, not to mention his exaggerated Pound attacks. Plus, using the Golden Pound attack brings back memories of the time Usopp defeated Perona on Thriller Bark, which is still one of his best knockouts.

9 Make Skull Jokes With Brook

Brook plays his guitar in One Piece Odyssey

Similarly to checking the map while playing as Zoro, playing as Brook brings with it a sort of... unconscious habit, if you will. Specifically, you just can't help but crack skeleton jokes while Brook is in your line of sight. He just brings out the jokester in everyone.

Even if Brook isn't talking or doing anything silly, the thought inevitably crosses your mind: "how can I make a Skull Joke in this current situation?" Even if it isn't funny, you can't help but bust a gut over a good Skull Joke. Not that Brook has any guts. Yohoho.
