The much anticipated Wildlands update for Ooblets has just been released and you can now be reunited with all those Ooblets you sent into the unknown once more. You'll be able to open the gate and walk through into a brand new area where your excess Ooblets are happily living a free-range life. However, unlocking everything the Wildlands update has to offer will take a while.

The Wildlands is more than just an area of free-roaming Ooblets. It also contains three mini-areas to unlock; Spicyspear Scrub, Droneydrip Pond, and Nurnycrop Crag. These are a forageable grove, fishing spot, and nurny mine respectively.

In order to unlock everything the update has to offer, you'll need to complete a series of quests to redevelop the Wildlands and access each new mini-area. Here's everything you need to know about the tinsel-tasks, quest board, and how to fully unlock the Wildlands.

Entering The Wildlands

Outgrid talking about wildlands being a refuge.

To get started simply head up to the Wildlands gate and Outgrid will come and talk to you. She explains how something strange has happened and it's spooked the nearby ooblets. Since she's worried about them she asks for your help in making the Wildlands into an ooblets refuge through a redevelopment and revitalization scheme.

After this short cut scene, you'll have access to a task board on the left of the gate, similar to the tinsel-task noticeboard in the town hall, and the Wildlands itself. If you go through the gate you'll enter the main area and see all the ooblets you had previously released into the Wildlands wandering around.

Ooblet Storage

the initial area of the wildlands just by the gate.

If you wish to you can now go up to any of these ooblets and send them back to your farm by clicking on them and selecting the appropriate option. This means that the Wildlands now functions as ooblet storage.

Since there are over 40 Ooblets currently in the game and each one has a rare and gleamy variant, this is great news. While you can have eight follow babies and three home babies, you need oobcoops for any extras. As oobcoops take up farmland and require a bunch of resources to craft, including the rare Oobsidian, being able to keep ooblets in the Wildlands and bring them home if you need them is a huge bonus. However, the new area is much more than just storage.

New Tinstel-Tasks

The first tinsel-task showing on the gate

To start exploring the Wildlands fully you need to head back to the gate in Badgetown. Here you'll find a new noticeboard with a tinstel-task in front of it. This first task asks you to develop the Wildlands to the second level. This will be followed by tasks to develop the area up to level six and finally level ten.

The Wildlands has ten development levels in total and they are reached by completing a series of quests accessed from the board pictured above. You can unlock new mini-areas to explore at levels two, six, and ten, while the other levels reward your progress with various items. You'll need to progress through all ten levels of tasks in order to unlock everything in the update.

The Wildlands Quests

The quest list at level one.

Each level will require what appears to be an increasing number of points to reach the next stage. As you can see above, level one requires just 50 points. However, level two will ask you for 75 points. Since each completed task awards 25 points, this suggests that the number of tasks required to complete each level will increase by one each time.

Not only is the volume of tasks requiring completion quite high overall but there's also a time barrier. Once a task is completed it will be around 20 minutes or so before you'll see a new goal. What's more, this timer appears to be specifically linked to time spent in Badgetown.

While participating in dance battles and exploring Mamoonia and Nullwhere, the timer appears to slow down considerably. This means that unlocking the Wildlands isn't a quick task.

Discovering a task that requires an ooblet you don't have will also slow you down but there is a solution. Each quest will time out after a couple of in-game days, so you can just wait it out. However, this obviously increases the time to completion.

Examples Of Wildlands Development Goals

The tasks appear to be centered around sending ooblets to the Wildlands, presumably in order to build up a variety of occupants. They have specified ooblets from specific areas or levels, and even specific types of ooblet. Any ooblets already in the Wildlands will count towards the goal but you'll need to add any that are missing. For example, if the task requires three ooblets from Badgetown, and you only have two living there, you'll need to send another to complete it, even if you have plenty more on your farm. They need to specifically be sent to the Wildlands.

If all this sounds complicated don't worry. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you complete the quests.

  • Check Your Collection

The tasks include sending ooblets from certain areas or of specific levels or types into the Wildlands. This means that if the task requires an ooblet you don't have yet, then your progress will be considerably slowed by either waiting out the task or finding and growing the missing Ooblet. Making an effort to fill any gaps in your ooblet lineup will help you complete the goals as they appear.

  • Use Your Time Wisely

You'll need to wait between quests so make sure to use this time wisely. While it can affect the timer a little, making sure your ooblets are variable and leveled, even just up a couple of levels, is worthwhile. This is because you'll save time in the long run.

  • Do Some Farming

It's also advisable to do some farming. Collecting missing ooblets will require specific foods to trigger the dance battles. Check what you'll need for the ooblets you want and get farming and cooking so you're prepared when they appear.

  • Check The Barn

Some ooblets are only available through the dance battles in the barn since their native areas are not yet in the game. Keep an eye out for any you are missing and make sure you grab them. You can see the next few day's rewards by checking the list in the barn.

Unlocking Everything

The new areas and items are pretty much all tied to the quest system. For example, the spicyspear is found in Spicyspear Scrub, a new mini foraging area that you unlock at level two. All the other redevelopment levels are also linked to new items and areas, which are rewarded for completion.

The exception to this is the new recipes and blueprints. If you have recipe pieces in your inventory you'll discover that they can now be put together once more to acquire the new hophophopdobs recipe. A new blueprint for the heated oobcoop upgrade can also be purchased with wishies from the well.

How fast you can access everything will depend entirely on how much of Ooblets you've already explored. If you have a complete collection of ooblets then it will be much quicker than if you're just getting started. However, regardless of your progress, the area is designed to be naturally explored over time and it's much more enjoyable to embrace that. So sit back, relax and just enjoy everything that Ooblets and the Wildlands have to offer.
