The Outer Worlds was unquestionably a highlight of 2019, and may be one of the Switch's most anticipated games in 2020. However, the Switch version of the game will be receiving a delay due to the coronavirus, which has also impacted the production of Nintendo's Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

In a tweet from publisher Private Division, the company behind Kerbal Space Program and The Outer Worlds for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, it was announced that the Switch rendition would be receiving a delay. Specifically, the port was pushed back due to the coronavirus that has plagued much of China and has affected other parts of the world, as well.

The tweet can be seen below.

Private Division bluntly states in the tweet above that The Outer Worlds for Nintendo Switch is being delayed as per the impact the virus has had on Virtuos. It is said in the twee that this is to give Virtuos more development time.

Interestingly, Private Division briefly mentioned a new cartridge-based version of the game. Eager players will be notified once a new release date has been set.

In the same tweet thread, Private Division went on to assure those worried that the team was okay. Rather, Virtuos' office has been closed down during the spread of the coronavirus.

The impact of the coronavirus, thus far, has been very upsetting. The virus has been caught by many, though much is being done in an effort to protect against the spread of the coronavirus, which includes (but is not limited to) the closing-down of numerous businesses.

The coronavirus has impacted the game industry in a number of ways. As well as slowing down the production of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the disease caused a cancellation of Pro League League of Legends matches in China due to safety concerns. Further, Pokémon Championships in Hong Kong have been canceled as per fears of the coronavirus.

Of course, while the coronavirus' impact on the industry is upsetting, it has many worried for society as a whole. Hopefully, a treatment or cure is found soon in order to combat it effectively.
