Outriders is only a few days away, and People Can Fly continues to fuel players' interest in the upcoming co-op action with superpowers. In a new animated short, the developers revealed some Outriders backstory, which is not evident through the game's prologue.

The recent Outriders demo allows all the players a chance to establish on Enoch planet, offering a taste for the first gameplay hours, including the short cinematic prologue. However, many details of the project's opening remain unknown. To clarify things a little, People Can Fly and Square Enix released a new short drawn-stylized video for those who are interested in Outriders universe, its lore, and key story points.

According to the new video called “No turning back," the people of Earth made the planet almost uninhabitable by the year 2048. Only the best and brightest members of the society were chosen for the planet's exodus, to settle on Enoch and restart humanity there. But ironically, things turn out very unexpectedly, as the first human ark “Caravel” with all those selected suddenly blows up upon the orbit.

Three years later, a second ark named “Flores” was sent to Enoch, only this time it was populated with outcasts, ex-criminals, and decommissioned military. They were supposed to be cannon fodder during the colonization and this time that's exactly what happened. The pathfinders encountered an unknown anomaly on the surface, which killed most of them in a blink of an eye. Those few who survived were changed and gained special abilities. Later, they will be known as Altered, and you play as one of them in Outriders.

During the first hours of Outriders in the demo, plenty of this background remains behind the curtains. It is possible that even in the full game, the players can learn very little about old things back on Earth and how this large-scale exodus to Enoch happened in the first place. In addition, there are already some worries that Outriders players will never be able to properly explore Enoch itself. People Can Fly clearly emphasized the action in Outriders and it's probably not so bad after all.

Outriders is coming on April 1 to PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5. During the first week, more than 2 million players across all platforms have tried the demo, Square Enix previously reported.
