During the main quest in Outward, you will eventually leave Cierzo and join a faction. There are four main factions that you can join, all with a variety of benefits. If your struggling to pick a faction to join, you've come to the right place.
In this guide, we are going to go over the benefits of joining each faction. This will include rewards that the faction will provide, as well as the location and the city they are located in. First, let's take a look at how to join a faction for the first time.
Updated August 23, 2023 by Jacqueline Zalace: Outward factions dictate how you spend your time playing the game. We've updated this guide with a bit more information on joining these four factions and tweaked the formatting to help with readability.
How To Reach Every City
The four factions are located in Berg, Monsoon, Levant, and Harmattan. These four cities are spread quite far throughout the world, so finding them might be a challenge in itself.
Each city can be found within a different region of the world; be sure to bring plenty of supplies and consult the map if you get lost. As a rule of thumb, Monsoon is to the north, Levant is to the east, Berg is south, and Harmattan can only be reached by taking a caravan.
Joining A Faction
Joining a faction can be done through the main quest titled Looking To The Future. For this quest, Rissa Aberdeen will task you with going to a city and joining a faction. From here, you can either head to the Enmerkar Forest, the Hallowed Marsh, or the Abrassar.
Once you make it to one of these locations and head to the main city, you simply need to complete a few quests to join the faction. You are only allowed to join one faction at a time, but you are able to venture to other cities and complete additional quests for other factions.
It's important to know that the base game will have three factions available, but with the Soroboreans DLC, you will be able to join the Sorobor Academy. We will go over the benefits of joining this faction, but it will not be available if you do not have the DLC.

Berg is located in the center of Enmerkar Forest, right above the lake that feeds into the river.
This is the largest faction in the game, with an HQ in Berg. The Blue Chamber Collective prioritizes family, and prefers not to kill enemies; this includes criminals who have wronged the faction. Rather than being sentenced to death, the Collective will exile them.
Rissa Aberdeen is a main member of this faction, which means that Cierzo falls under the faction as well. This can be seen in the second quest where you must pay a Blood Price. The Blood Price is a Blue Chamber Collective law, aimed to eliminate the hurt party acting in revenge.
Benefits Of Joining The Blue Chamber Collective
Berg is in a fairly central location, allowing you to quickly travel around to other areas while completing quests. Additionally, enemies can be dangerous, so a 40 HP boost comes in handy.
The Cierzo Town Key provides access to several locked areas in Cierzo that contain valuable treasure. Lastly, The Collective is made up of a wide variety of NPCs who train in several different fields of combat, making this a versatile faction to be a part of.

Monsoon is located at the northern tip of the Hallowed Marsh. You can get to the city by following the Pilgrim Road and speaking to the person in a boat at the northern end, who takes you to Monsoon.
The Holy Mission of Elatt is a faction that prioritizes helping and caring for others. This faction is similar to a religious group, dealing with magic. The Mission is named after Elatt, a Mage and Philosopher that founded the faction.
Overall, followers of the Holy Mission of Elatt act as peacekeepers, rarely engaging in brutal combat. If you join this faction, you will get the chance to learn several passive skills that will help you survive.
Benefits Of Joining The Holy Mission of Elatt
As you can see, this faction provides a lot of passive effects. This is more than the other factions provide, making the Mission a great faction to join for the passives alone. This faction is perfect if you plan to have a magic-centered build, since many of the members are mages.
The Heroic Kingdom of Levant

Levant is on the eastern side of Abrassar. You will need to trek across the desert to get here.
Unlike the previous two factions, the Heroic Kingdom of Levant prioritizes individualism. Once part of the Blue Chamber, this faction split due to the obligations to family. Now, the Heroic Kingdom focuses on personal freedom and creating a progressive society.
It's worth noting that Levant is very far away from Cierzo; if you want to join this faction, you will have to travel quite far, crossing through the Enmerkar Forest.
Benefits Of Joining The Heroic Kingdom of Levant
If magic isn't your forte, then the Heroic Kingdom is the faction for you. This is a great group to join if you favor sword or gun combat. As mentioned above, getting to Levant can be a challenge in itself. If you are up for the challenge and want to push yourself, then this is a good faction to join.

Lastly, we have the Sorobor Academy. To join this faction, you will need to complete Call To Adventure. After this, rather than heading to the locations of one of the three factions listed above, you will need to speak with any Soroborean Caravanner. From here, pay the caravanner 200 silver to take you to Harmattan and join the Sorobor Academy.
This faction prioritizes academic knowledge, as well as commerce, as seen with their traveling caravanners.
Benefits Of Joining Sorobor Academy
If you aim to make a living by selling items, then the passives that this faction provides are perfect for you. There is no specific playstyle that this faction favors, so you will not be constrained by a certain build.
Which Faction Should You Join?
With that, you now know about all four factions in Outward. Overall, the choice of which one to pick is up to you because there is no 'wrong' option. Below, you can find a quick list to help you decide which one to join.

After joining a faction, you can complete quests, as well as venture out to other cities. Once you officially join a faction, the Vendavel Quest will begin, which must be completed in 40 days, or the city of Cierzo will become permanently destroyed. This means that after you choose a faction, head back to Cierzo and save the city!
