While The Walking Dead series from Telltale Games hangs in limbo as it hopes and waits for a new publisher, fans of the long running series can at least sink their teeth into the other Walking Dead video game from Overkill Software.

Beginning today, October 9th, the closed beta for Overkill's The Walking Dead is available for PC. In order to play, players must pre-order the game through Steam. Those that pre-order the deluxe edition of the game will receive the additional perk of inviting three friends to the beta as well. Both pre-order editions will include a bonus Overkill cosmetic skin pack.

This “Part 1” beta – available through October 10th – is the first of three scheduled closed betas that will be offered in the lead up to the game’s official release on PC on November 6th. Beta content available now features the game’s first two missions, along with two camp defense scenarios. The Overkill team is releasing beta content in intervals to give them “time to go through players opinions, analyze and make adjustments for future builds.” Additional beta time-slot information can be found at the bottom of this article.

Overkill's The Walking Dead is the first of a handful of zombie titles being released in the coming months. Other known games include Days Gone and World War Z, while rumors continue to swirl around a potential new chapter in the Left 4 Dead series.

In fact, Left 4 Dead fans may take a particular liking to Overkill's The Walking Dead. The first-person shooter is described by publisher 505 Games as a “four-player co-op action game where players must band together on a variety of missions and raids to find survivors, secure supplies and stay alive”; a description nearly identical to the dynamics of the fan-favorite Valve series.

Overkill's The Walking Dead will be available for PC on November 6th, with releases for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One planned for February 6, 2019 in the Americas, and February 8, 2019 in Europe.
