When playing a competitive online game filled with characters with their own sets of powers, you will run into some that are annoying to go up against. Overwatch 2 has a roster of beloved heroes, but some are annoying if they are not on your team.

Across every category — Tank, Damage, and Support — there are heroes to respect when you go against them, while others will fill you with rage. The reasons range from annoying abilities to playstyles that make it difficult unless you have the right lineup on your side to counter the enemy. The most annoying heroes, at times, might be the key to winning matches.

10 Mei

Mei emoting at the practice range

The easiest way to get targeted is to play Mei, as she is arguably the most annoying character in Overwatch 2. Even when you and your team organize to take her down, she will be an irritating frozen fly buzzing around you.

Every aspect of Mei is frustrating, from her offensive to her defensive abilities. She can headshot people with her icicle launcher. When up close, there is no Genji to deflect her spray that damages and slows her enemies down. When in danger, she can become difficult to kill due to her ice wall or heal herself with cryo-freeze. Then, her Ultimate can be a game-changer, as anyone in the vicinity will be frozen and open to lethal damage.

9 Bastion

Bastion emoting at the practice range

The easiest way to lose is not to counter Bastion. One of the most powerful and easiest heroes in Overwatch 2 is one of the most annoying behind Mei. The chance of people talking trash significantly increases when they lose to this seemingly friendly robot who shreds people in turret form.

While some heroes have a useful full kit, Bastion is best against flying characters or shredding Rein or Brigitte's shield when in turret form. It may have its practical uses, but when people lose, they often switch to Bastion, which is why he becomes such a miserable hero to fight. Many wars are won when one side has a Bastion and the other does not.

8 Pharah

Pharah emoting at the practice range

Not everyone can fly, so those who can have a great advantage. Pharah shoots into the air and then blows her enemies up while also making them shout in anger as they die. Between her weapon and airstrike of an Ultimate, she is one of the deadliest heroes to go up against when someone knows how to control her limited fuel supply.

The only real counter to Pharah is a hero who can hitscan. Plenty of heroes can instantly do damage when you click the trigger, but it is up to you and your team to shoot well enough to knock Pharah out of the sky. It's not like tearing down a shield as a robotic turret that takes no skill. Without a good sharpshooter, like Ashe or Baptiste, you may end a match with a red face and sweaty hands as Pharah gets Play of the Game.

7 Echo

The other flying hero is Echo, who is also a damage-based character. While on the weaker end of the damage roster, a good Echo can be difficult to kill as she flies around to blast and laser her adversaries.

Pharah is the superior flying hero, but Echo can still be annoying to fight. Her Ultimate boosts her up a notch in power and frustration as she can copy a single enemy. While in this form, her Ultimate charges quickly to utilize it as fast as possible. She can turn the tide if she is someone with a powerful Ultimate. To make it more challenging for her foes, once defeated in this form, she reverts to her old self rather than actually dying.

6 Orisa

Orisa emoting at the practice range

Orisa is the definition of a tank. She takes a hit, unlike most heroes, especially when she armors up. Killing Orisa is all about taking out her support, but that can be difficult when you have a bulky robot in front of you shooting and throwing javelins. You can't even sleep her as Ana when she uses her Ultimate, as people tend to armor up, protecting them to ensure they can use the powerful attack.

Orisa is one of the best tanks, but also too good for her category. It makes it so the best way to face her is with equally annoying heroes in Overwatch 2, like Mei, who can shoot her chilling spray to take down the mighty tank.

5 Sojourn

Sojourn emoting at the practice range

For the longest time, Soldier 76 brought a Call of Duty style to the DPS heroes. Sojourn is a more acrobatic version with her slide that can send her flying through the air. While her machine gun shoots fast, her overpowered alt-fire can one-hit a majority of heroes. Even if it is not a single hit, she can take tanks down quickly if she manages to nail headshots.

Sojourn is a hero who can easily get nerfed into never being touched again, but the railgun is an example of how some heroes can make their opponents rage from a single ability. Accompany that with how she can be difficult to hit, and then you have a migraine-inducing target laying people out consistently.

4 Widowmaker

Widowmaker emoting at the practice range

When you throw in a sniper in a game, a certain demographic will gravitate toward them. Widowmaker is the sniper in Overwatch 2, giving her opponents a tough time as she domes people left and right. Like the railgun from Sojourn, if someone has the aim, they will have a clear playing field as anyone who gets in their sights will die instantly.

Widowmaker is additionally frustrating due to her lack of utility. When a good Widowmaker is on the other side, you know they are bringing nothing but headshots to the table. While some heroes can get a pass for bringing something to benefit the strategic part of the matches, like Mei bringing in a well-timed wall, Widowmaker does nothing but miss or hit.

3 Moira

Moira emoting at the practice range

No support hero will wipe the floor with their enemies like Moira. The damage she can do from a wide range can make you want to bash your head against the wall. Even if you are on her team, she can make you feel this way as jokes are made within the community about how Moira players put all their energy into damage rather than healing.

The combinations that Moira can do are what set her apart from most. She can get away with her dash while still doing damage with her purple orb. She can use that orb to multiply her damage as she sucks your life away. All that builds up to a climax of her Ultimate, which could heal her team, but often ditches that utility for destroying her adversaries.

2 Sombra

Sombra emoting at the practice range

Sombra is a fly that you swat away. She is annoying, but depending on your hero, her hacking may not detract from you getting work done for your team. Depending on the team lineup, she can find a use for herself. Most of the time, she is roaming around and causing a distraction.

Doing damage or bringing offensive utility can do a lot in a match. When your kit is not as consistent at either, the best you can do is not die. By going invisible and either distracting people or getting to the point. When in danger, she will teleport away to her Translocator. You have ways to hunt her down, but that continues to take you away from slaying or focusing on the objective and giving her importance to her team.

1 Symmetra

Symmetra emoting at the practice range

Turret-using heroes can be a pain, and Symmetra is the queen of robotic minions doing the hard work. By sending out relatively small robots, they laser the enemy to death. It can take a moment to find them when well-placed, adding to the annoying nature of her main ability.

The turrets are easy to kill, so that is the one positive for you if you are against a Symmetra. Unfortunately, when in the heat of battle, it can be hard to look for them if you do not immediately see where they are at. That ticking of damage on top of enemies coming at you can lead to failure and a match that makes you want to be done for the day.
