Overwatch 2 isn't letting players attack Brazil's Christ the Redeemer, as seen in the Paraiso hybrid map. When you try to fire at the Jesus monument, all projectiles are useless, preventing the player from having any kind of effect on the statue.

Better yet, the developers have gone to some lengths to make sure it doesn't even look like a missile could hit the monument, as all attacks will actually deflect and fall to the ground. This shows that protecting Christ the Redeemer was an active choice, with devs conscious that players might find it fun to target the statue.

Resident heathen and cross-department editor James Troughton kindly volunteered to test it for us and found that this is indeed the case. They even hit Jesus with their Pharah ult, but to no avail, so it wasn't for lack of trying. In fact, we can get a better look at the effect thanks to Reddit user 0micronGaming, who shows that attacks bounce off the model altogether. This is almost definitely a conscious decision from the devs, since other textures and map details don't have this effect when attacked.

That doesn't mean that all Overwatch maps are static, however. As well as being able to destroy small fences and walls to better aim your attacks, a new map added more creative ways to interact with our environment. In Antarctic Peninsular, you can "go fishing" by firing at a water source, and even cause the penguins to flinch if you attack them. If you're a monster, that is. Of course, Blizzard knew that some players would do this, and programmed the reaction in the first place.

However, if the devs can give Jesus these beefy defences, then why not the penguins? Let's see the adorable Antarctic residents throw an entire missile barrage back at their would-be attackers - that would certainly make many of us think twice.
