There's exciting news for Overwatch players, as Blizzard is celebrating the game's third anniversary with an event that begins on May 21.

As always, there is an expectation that new skins, emotes, and sprays will be added to mark the occasion. While Blizzard has been tight-lipped, but, according to Game Rant, we will be getting six new legendary skins, three epic skins, and new dance emotes for Baptiste, Ashe, and Wrecking Ball.

The game will be free to play from May 21 until May 28. During the free trial, the game will maintain any rewards from loot boxes acquired when the trial expires, and they will be available again if a player decides to purchase the game.

In a recent interview, analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities predicted that Overwatch would be free to play by June. With only two weeks left until that point, it will be interesting to see if and how Blizzard chooses to shift the way it monetizes its game, as it has already been three years since launch.

In any case, it is nice to see how popular the game has remained since its release. If the recent expansion of the Overwatch League is any indication for the future, there will likely be consistent updates for years to come.

The Overwatch League partnered with Upper Deck to create a series of trading cards consisting of the various players from each team. Since these packs will be primarily offered in the form of the online ePack, it seems like Blizzard has an opportunity to incorporate them as new items for its loot box offerings or as items players must purchase.

The Overwatch anniversary event will begin on May 21 and run until June 10.
