Overwatch Contenders introduced The Gauntlet in 2019. The best teams from each region competed in a Korean-based tournament to determine who was the best tier two team around. It was Element Mystic that took home the title during the inaugural tournament. Now, the Contenders 2020 year looks to finish strong by brining back The Gauntlet, this time with some changes to match the 2020 landscape.

Unlike last year's Gauntlet, this year will feature four different regions battling it out amongst themselves: Asia, South America, Europe and North America. This makes sense given the ongoing global pandemic. Event though it won't feature just the elite teams in each region competing against each other, The Gauntlet should still be exciting as each region will find a team to crown champion. These various tournaments will begin at the end of November and run through most of December, giving fans of Overwatch Contenders a lot of exciting matches to watch.

A total of 42 teams will compete in the regions: Asia with 10 teams (4 Chinese, 4 Korean, 1 Pacific and 1 Australian) while South America will have eight teams compete and Europe and North America will each have 12 teams compete. The Asia prize pool is $175K while South America is $75K and Europe/North America are both $100K. A  lot is on the line for these teams and fans should expect them to be at the top of their game.

Even though this year's Gauntlet won't be quite the same as it was in 2019, there is a lot to love with the upcoming tournament. Having a tournament at all is a big accomplishment given the landscape of 2020. Still, the Gauntlet feels like the culmination of the entire year of Overwatch Contenders. Fans have seen their favorite teams battle it out since the beginning and they will have one last chance to leave their mark on the year as they prepare for 2021. It's going to be a good time.
