Can’t we all just get along? Well, we’re going to have to. Overwatch has unveiled its new PvE mode, Retribution, and it’s co-op all the way.

In the FPS genre, as we know, good old fashioned competitive multiplayer tends to be king. A lot of the time, these games tend to have singleplayer campaigns that serve as flashy tutorials. In many cases, one simply isn’t included, and a lone player can do nothing but play matches with bots. If even that.

Sadly, the genre is also one of the most competitive; usually sporting a K/D that must be defended, bloated and boasted about on the web at all costs. Shooter fans will be familiar with how relentlessly intense it can get around here, especially as the hatemail starts to flow. It can be nice to take a break from that sort of thing, to cleanse your palette a little.

You can’t get away from the mega-popular Overwatch these days, nor from all of the mud-slinging that tends to center around its community. The game has a terrible problem with griefers and trolls, but that’s not really anything new with any game that centers around online play. What Blizzard really need to do is push the whole community aspect further. Let’s darn well co-operate, friends.

Overwatch Unveils Retribution, New PvE Co-Op Mode

This is exactly where the new Retribution mode comes in. As revealed by the Overwatch official YouTube channel yesterday, this new seasonal mission will follow four heroes: Genji, Moira, McCree and Reyes (who will come to be known as Reaper). Other heroes will also be playable in an all-heroes mode. We’re taking a journey back into the past, revisiting the Blackwatch Mission of eight years ago.

In a pretty Venetian setting, your goal is to apprehend and capture a member of Talon. The organisation’s forces are many, varied and bloodthirsty, and you and your team are going to have quite the darn fight on your hands.

It sounds as though you’ll be amply rewarded, though. Succeeding in your mission will, as per Overwatch tradition, unlock all manner of items from the game’s archives. Over one hundred pieces (sprays, emotes and such) that had been removed from circulation will be available, along with sixty new ones.

This limited-time event will be accessible from April 10- April 30. For more information on the upcoming Uprising Retribution event, hit US Gamer.
