The time is upon us again for a new Overwatch character to be added to the fray. Thanks to a number of hints by Blizzard, fans were able to theorize that Brigitte Lindholm would soon become the 27th character playable in Overwatch, and they were correct!

Blizzard has recently been seen dropping hints on social media, including a tweet highlighting a dispatch from Egyptian sharpshooter Ana Amari detailing a mission that'd had some complications featuring Reinhardt, Torbjorn, and a Private First Class by the name of Emre Sarioglu (who is not currently in the game). Overwatch's website then later in the week featured a letter by Torbjorn to his wife, as backstory, that he'd allowed Reinhardt to be godfather to his upcoming daughter as well as give her her name.

Rock Paper Shotgun had put the pieces together and come to the conclusion that Torbjorn's daughter, Brigitte, would likely be the latest addition. According to RPS, she'd been featured in the Overwatch short "Honor and Glory", and has been mentioned in a previous Overwatch comic.

It has been nearly half a year since the release of the last new character. Support class character Moira was sent into battle in November of 2017. Blizzard is not known especially for coincidence, and the addition of lore and backstory between Torbjorn and Reinhardt would only serve to position a new character with some sort of shared history between the two characters.

Brigitte is a support character, like her father. She wears a suit of custom-built armor - again, like her father - and uses her abilities to boost her allies' defenses while also damaging multiple enemies at once. She mostly has a pretty typical support package - she's got a healing ability (any healing above maximum becomes armor); a hard knock-back ability; a solid stun; and a deployable barrier. Sadly, it looks like she won't be able to build gun turrets like her dad.
