After leaks of Overwatch coming to the Nintendo Switch, it was finally announced during yesterday's Nintendo Direct. Overwatch Legendary Edition will be available for the Switch on October 15th allowing fans of the game the ability to take their Overwatch experience on the go. An announcement trailer was shown featuring a wide variety of heroes - new and old - as well as some new features that will be an interesting addition to the Overwatch experience.

It looks like Overwatch will make use of the Nintendo Switch's motion controls. During the announcement trailer, the heroes Junkrat, Widowmaker, and Wrecking Ball were shown to be controlled using such controls. Junkrat's "Riptire" ultimate can be controlled by tilting your Switch as you would with a game like Mario Kart. Widowmaker was able to track an opponent through her scope as the player also moves the Switch and Wrecking Ball was able to swing around the point in his ball form with the same type of motions.

The announcement trailer only gave us a glimpse of the motion control through these three heroes but it's safe to assume that similar controls can be utilized for the rest of the hero pool. If the motion controls are actually practical or just a "Switch gimmick" to help make the game appear to play differently on the console, only actual gameplay will tell. I don't know how aiming with Widowmaker by moving the screen around will work, but controlling Junkrat's ultimate like you are driving it seems like a fun mechanic.

Fans of Overwatch don't have much longer to wait for the game to come to the Switch and the motions controls look to provide a different way to play the game on the Nintendo Console. It's safe to assume that you can turn off the motion controls during the game, but it's available to those who want to try it out. Overwatch will prove successful on the Switch and allow the exciting game to be played on the go. Here's to waiting for October 15th, and seeing how those motion controls play out.
