Back in August 2019, Paizo released the sixth adventure storyline for the Pathfinder Adventure Card Society, The Year of Rotting Ruin...Was this pure coincidence, or did the Paizo Sages have forwarning?

The Pathfinder Adventure Card Society, formally known as Pathfinder Society Adventure Card Guild, is the organized play arm for The Pathfinder Adventure Card Game. It shares the same universe as the Pathfinder RPG and has run for seven seasons now, at a variety of events worldwide. This year through a wrench in the works as Cons either went on-line or were canceled altogether. But in the true spirit of heroic adventurers everywhere, many of the organized play events have prevailed and moved online supporting the virtual con equivalents.

To take part in officially organized events, players need to be registered members with an organized play ID. All the Pathfinder Adventure Card Society storybooks are available to purchase online regardless of membership and can be played informally with friends. The talented team over at Paizo have outdone themselves and provided a fun romp through Pathfinder lore. The story arc this time has been split over six storybooks and took players on a rollercoaster ride that saw them:

  • Get arrested
  • Fight wave upon wave of Plague Zombies.
  • Tackle a maze of traps upon traps and of course fire.
  • Avoid rocks raining down from the aerial born Ashwing Gargoyles.
  • Rescue a group of children from a haunted house.
  • Fight your way through unending mobs of monsters, as you cross a graveyard.
  • Make an impossible choice, knowing no matter what, they will kill you.

As the end of the rotting ruin comes, assuming we don't get any second waves, it is only fitting that Paizo's The Year of Rotting Ruin should also come to a close. The foundation for the next organized play series The Year of Reborn Strife has been laid. In a special adventure, Tyrant of the Harrow adventurers finds themselves transported into the Harrowed Realm and must find a way home before they are sacrificed to 'fuel the plans of an evil mastermind!'

Assuming you escape from the Harrowed Realm, you can expect the new series to be announced at GenCon Online, July 30-Aug 2.
