Return to Pallet Town in this faithful recreation done in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

There are few fictional locations more iconic than Pallet Town. Really less of a town and just a collection of three buildings surrounded by tall grass, Pallet Town is where that very first journey began to become a Pokémon master. Now, Pokémon is a multi-billion dollar empire spanning the entire globe.

It’s also a Nintendo IP, so you probably won’t get sued for recreating it in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Twitter user TCL Poww used all the creative functions available in New Horizons to make Pallet Town on their island. The self-avowed Pokémon fan (at least, judging by their Twitter profile) spent untold minutes placing fences, flowers, and homes just as they would appear in Pokémon Red & Blue.

Admittedly, this project likely wasn’t nearly as involved as recreating all of Hyrule in New Horizons, but it still took some effort. Two homes stand-in for the abodes of Red and Blue, while Blathers’ Museum is the perfect replacement for Professor Oak’s Laboratory. Dirt paths are a new addition to the town but don’t seem out of place given the topography.

It’s notable how much attention to detail was spent here. The flower beds and small pond are exactly where you’d find them if you were to boot up your old Nintendo Gameboy and slot in a Red or Blue cartridge (if you could find one that still works, that is). Trees are placed identically to where you’d find them in Pallet town as well, and in the north, a collection of weeds represents the tall grass that is undoubtedly hiding a Pokémon just waiting to devour the player.

Oh, you don’t remember that? Back in the day, Pokémon were dangerous wild animals that you needed to protect yourself from using your own enslaved Pokémon. It was a lot less wholesome than the franchise is today.

You can’t catch Pokémon in this Pallet Town recreation, but you can still catch bugs and fish. It’s not quite the same, but at least it’s a lot less dangerous than trying to catch lizards that spew fire.
