Picking the right build in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous can be a difficult task, especially with so many options available to you. From classes to weaponry to spells, there's a lot to think about when it comes to crafting the perfect character.

Lann is recruited very early in the game alongside Wenduag - they are Mongrels and come straight from the Wrath of the Righteous tabletop module. Building Lann is quite intuitive - he's an archer with high Wisdom, he has options.

Lann's Basic Stats

Lann begins the game with a single level in Zen Archer. This is a Monk archetype that trades unarmed combat and Monk weapons for archery and is capable of truly devastating ranged damage output, given the chance.

Zen Archer 1: Point-Blank Shot

Zen Archers have all the usual trappings of a Monk archetype. When unarmored, they gain a bonus to AC equal to their Wisdom modifier and they gain Ki feats, which are spell-like abilities that add a little variety and flexibility to a build. Unfortunately, many of these are ranged (which Lann already has handled with his bows) or require touch attacks (which Lann will rarely find himself in range of).

Pure Zen Archer Build For Lann

Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Lann Zen Archer Monk Build
Zen Archer Monk build for Lann in Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous

This build is extremely simple in its concept: build Lann for damage and he will never betray you. With 20 levels in Zen Archer, his bow attacks will be doing 1d10 damage per shot and his bonuses will be monstrous. If you're in need of an archer, you can't go wrong with this build at all.

Thanks to the Zen Archer perk of not provoking attacks of opportunity with bows, Lann doesn't mind being right at the frontline during combat. This means he'll be in a better position to use touch-range abilities and fish for attacks of opportunity of his own.

  • We take boosts to Wisdom and Dexterity to improve Lann's AC a little, but the Strength boosts are for damage using Composite Longbows, which use Dexterity to hit and Strength for damage calculations.
  • If you prefer, you can swap out all of the Longbow feats for the Shortbow versions.
  • Many of the Ki Powers are unlikely to be used much in normal play, so they can be swapped around or swapped out quite easily. The only really great ones are Barkskin and Restoration.
  • Rapid Shot is great, but only really worth activating once you have Rapid Shot (Mythic) which cancels out the accuracy hit the ability comes with.

  • These Mythic abilities will give Lann a huge boost to his offensive capabilities. Cleaving Shot is fantastic for dealing with large groups of monsters and Flawless Attacks will help deal with the tough solo foes.
  • Deadly Aim (Mythic) provides a huge damage boost once you have enough Mythic Ranks, so consider taking it after the feats that make Lann a more reliable shot.
  • If you find that you don't use Ki powers all that much, you may want to consider swapping Abundant Ki for something else, such as The Bigger They Are.

Crusader Build For Lann

Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Lann Crusader Cleric Build
Crusader Cleric build for Lann in Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous

This is a build that suits Lann thematically and has gained some traction on the web in a few different forms. Lann is a character with idealistic dreams of joining the crusade, so it just makes sense to make him a fully-fledged Crusader.

Crusader is a Cleric archetype with a focus on martial abilities, which suits Lann fine. He has great Wisdom and access to some useful Zen Archer abilities that translate really well.

This build turns Lann into a hybrid caster and archer, and there are many ways to customize it.

  • *You will need to take the Impossible Domain (Animal) Mythic Ability before you are able to get an Animal Companion. Make sure you take this as early as possible.
    • You can choose any animal for Lann, but Velociraptor is a cool, thematic choice for Lann. There is an example of a Velociraptor build at the end of the article.
  • We take the War domain as it grants Lann an extra combat feat at Crusader Level Eight.
  • Taking the third level in Zen Archer makes it so that Lann uses his Wisdom instead of his Dexterity to calculate his attack roll bonus with bows. This helps him keep his ranged attack output up while building as a spellcaster.
  • We take Weapon Focus (Ray) to possibly help Lann hit with the few Cleric spells that count as Rays. These are spells that require a ranged touch attack to hit.
  • Enchantment is a great school for all of its spells that can outright take enemies out of combat for a while. We will use a Mythic Feat to also apply our Spell Foci to Evocations though, for some more offensive spells.
  • You can pick any Metamagic, really - Quicken Spell is good for improving Lann's action economy though. With buffing or healing spells that only cost a swift action, he can get a lot more done in a single round. It may be worth taking the feat earlier if you like the sound of this.
    • It's totally feasible to replace Clustered Shots with another Metamagic feat if preferred.

  • Animal and Community are widely recognized to be two of the best Cleric domains in the game thanks to the variety of bonuses they provide. You will need to take Animal if you want an Animal Companion, but you can swap Community out for a different domain if you really want to.
  • The Abundant Casting line of abilities is vital for letting Lann be a very flexible caster.
  • Expanded Arsenal (Evocation) and Spell Penetration (Mythic) also help boost Lann's capabilities as a Cleric. Even with high Wisdom, many foes in Wrath of the Righteous are highly resistant to magic so every little helps.
  • Cleaving Shot could be replaced with Boundless Healing if you want to accentuate Lann's capabilities as a healer.

Useful Spells

Level 1:Divine Favor, Remove Fear, Magic Weapon, Unbreakable Heart

Level 2: Align Weapon, Lesser Restoration, Communal Protection from Alignment

Level 3: Archon's Aura, Communal Resist Energy, Communal Delay Poison, Prayer, Searing Light

Level 5: Break Enchantment, Vinetrap, Angelic Aspect, Burst of Glory, Spell Resistance

Level 6: Heal, Eaglesoul, Hellfire Ray, Cold Ice Strike, Mass Blessing of Luck and Resolve

Level 7: Greater Restoration, Holy Word, Word of Chaos, Waves of Ecstasy

Level 8: Legendary Proportions, Frightful Aspect, Holy Aura, Stormbolts, Fire Storm

Level 9: Mass Heal, Overwhelming Presence

  • Great candidates for Quicken Spell are Communal Protection from Energy (for regular usage against foes like dragons and enemy spellcasters), Heal, Hellfire Ray, and Remove Fear.
  • Don't forget all of the Cure spells that be used to make Lann useful in a healing capacity.

Drovier Summoner Build for Lann

Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Lann Drovier Druid Build
Drovier Druid build for Lann in Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous

Druid is a popular choice for Lann as there aren't any other Druid companions in the game and Lann has the high Wisdom that a Druid needs. This build uses the Drovier archetype as it exchanges Wild Shape for Communal Animal Aspects - Lann isn't likely to be using Wild Shape anyway, as an archer.

This build takes feats that accentuate the Drovier's summon spells and turn Lann into a summoner. Summon some monsters and then pick off enemies with a bow while they deal with the swarms you've created!

  • With so many Metamagic feats, it's possible to customize your already versatile spellbook in any way you want. Empower Spell works really well with your summon spells, as does Extend Spell to make them more useful in longer fights.
  • We take the third level of Zen Archer at Level 12 because that's when Lann's Wisdom is increased enough to really let him benefit from the Zen Archer's ability to use Wisdom instead of Dexterity with bows' attack rolls.
  • You don't really need to have a Velociraptor Companion, but it works thematically for Lann and his lizardlike half. You can swap it out for any preferred Animal Companion.
  • Getting Spell Focus feats for Conjuration is great for using the pit and spike spells that can make fights far easier. Make sure to have Feather Step users in the party when using these spells!

Extra Feat: Favorite Metamagic (Quicken Spell)

  • There's room for a lot of personal changes to this build when it comes to Mythic Abilities and Feats. If you find that you use Lann as a ranger more than as a full spellcaster you can easily trade some of the Favorite Metamagic feats or Sorcerous Reflex for combat-oriented abilities. Some that you may wish to consider are:
    • Abilities: Cleaving Shot, Distracting Shots
    • Feats: Deadly Aim (Mythic), Point-Blank Shot (Mythic), Extra Feat: Rapid Shot
  • Ascendant Summons will make Lann an even better summoner so it's almost required for this sort of build.

Useful Spells

Level 1: Aspect of the Falcon, Acid Maw, Magic Fang

Level 2: Aspect of the Bear, Pox Pustules, Stone Call, Barkskin

Level 3: Communal Delay Poison, Soothing Mud, Dominate Animal, Communal Resist Energy, Spike Growth

Level 4: Communal Protection from Energy, Dispel Magic, Cape of Wasps, Slowing Mud, Spike Stones

Level 5: Baleful Polymorph, Stoneskin, Geniekind, Vinetrap, Cave Fangs

Level 6: Greater Dispel Magic, Mass Transmutation Spells

Level 7: Creeping Doom, Legendary Proportions, Sunbeam

Level 8: Stormbolts, Seamantle, Frightful Aspect, Communal True Seeing

Level 9: Tsunami, Clashing Rocks, Summon Elder Worm

  • In addition to the spells listed above, don't forget that Lann has access to every Summon Monster and Summon Elemental spell and he should absolutely be using them in most fights - this build is for a summoner after all.
  • Lann also has access to all of the Cure spells, so he can be a decent healer in this build too. You may wish to figure out some way to get the Boundless Healing Mythic Ability if you want to use him as a main healer.
  • This spellbook is very versatile. Lann can be an excellent buffer, summoner, crowd controller, healer, and damage caster all in one - he will always have something to do as long as he has the spell slots remaining.

Velociraptor Animal Companion Build

Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Velociraptor Build
Bully build for a Velociraptor Animal Companion in Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous

We pick a Velociraptor Animal Companion for Lann because it's a lizard creature that suits his aesthetic (and velociraptors are cool), but he can use any other animal just as well. This build, however, is for an effective Velociraptor.
