Clerics are a mainstay of tabletop RPGs and it seems almost suspicious that you aren't provided one within the first few hours of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. Not to worry, though, as the beginning of Act Two is blessed with the arrival of Sosiel, a Human Cleric of Shelyn.

Sosiel is a very interesting character with a captivating set of companion quests and is even a potential romance for a male PC. Add to that the fact that he is a Cleric, an almost universally helpful class, and it's quite feasible that he'll be a permanent addition to your party.

Sosiel's Basic Stats

Sosiel joins at level six, with all of his levels taken in Cleric. His stats, however, leave a little to be desired. His meager 10 Dexterity will make him a very easy target so he's almost automatically relegated to the back ranks of the party when in a battle. High Wisdom (for casting spells) and so-so Strength (for theoretical combat and being a pack mule) make him serviceable, at least.

The first few feats taken here would have you believe that Sosiel is competing for a spot in the party with resident uber-healer Daeran - but he then takes two defensive feats that imply he should be taken into the fray more.

Unfortunately, his very low Dexterity makes relying on armor a misguided effort, and thus we can consider Medium Armor Focus a wasted feat. Toughness isn't so bad, but we'll hopefully be looking for ways to keep Sosiel out of the firing line.

Mounted Summoner Cleric Build For Sosiel

Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Summoner Cleric Sosiel Build
A Mounted Summoner Cleric build for Sosiel in Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous

This build tries to assuage Sosiel's flimsiness by giving him a bulky mount. While mounted, characters in Wrath of the Righteous are functionally invisible to many attacks - they will instead go to their animal companion.

This build also makes Sosiel a summoner. Summon spells are useful for contributing to the battle while not spending many feats on various school specializations and metamagics. This will be extra useful if his mount is incapacitated and he needs to stay far away.

  • When you recruit Sosiel he will be at level seven and will have a Mythic Rank ready to spend - use this for Expanded Domain (Animal) immediately to be able to access Boon Companion and use your mount.
  • Once we have our companion up and running, we quickly go into a summoner build with Conjuration and Summoning feats. Augment Summoning is nice for making your summons a bit better at combat but Superior Summoning is the best here - it will add more summons to each summon spell cast.
  • Spell Penetration feats are used because they are pretty much necessary to make casters work well in Wrath of the Righteous. Even if you're mostly casting buffs and summons, you'll probably need to cast against enemies at some point.
  • The final stat boost goes to Strength simply by default. Thanks to Sosiel's stat array, the final point won't actually provide any mechanical bonuses.
  • A build for an exemplar animal companion will be at the bottom of this guide.

  • The early feats taken here are quite standard for Sosiel. Animal Domain to get the companion, Abundant Casting for a ton of spell slots, and Mythic versions of your main feats.
  • Evocation is chosen for Expanded Arsenal as it has quite a few options for both support and damage. It could be taken earlier if needed.
  • Sorcerous Reflex is just a really good utility feat to have, especially in cases of surprise ambushes or the like.
  • If you're a fan of Enduring Spells shenanigans and having a whole score of buffs up for 24 hours, the best feats to sacrifice would be Sorcerous Reflex and Expanded Arsenal.

Useful Spells

Level 9: Mass Heal, Polar Midnight, Shapechange

  • This is a rather standard collection of Cleric spells, with some niche additions like Beast Shape III and Shapechange for situational usefulness.
  • Always remember that Sosiel will also have all of the Cure Wounds spells and they're always relevant.
  • Not listed above are all of the Summon Monster and Summon Elemental spells. These are crucial to actually being a summoner so don't forget to memorize them.

Necromancer Cleric Build For Sosiel

Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Necromancer Cleric Sosiel Build
A Necromancer Cleric build for Sosiel in Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous

This build is a more offensively slanted one that seeks to utilize the various Necromancy spells in the game rather than typical weaponry - seeing as Sosiel will fall within a few turns if he tries to swing his flail at anything more deadly than a wolf.

Even if this build doesn't have as much oomph as typical caster builds, there will still be a lot of value that Sosiel can add simply by being a Cleric. What's notable about this build is that it would work really well when partnered with any undead allies - for example, a Dhampir or Lich PC.

  • The gist of this build is to use Reach Spell metamagic to keep Sosiel far away from the action while also being able to contribute with powerful Necromancy spells. Once he has the Favorite Metamagic Mythic Ability there will be nothing stopping applying the metamagic to every single applicable spell.
  • If it's something you'd prefer, it's perfectly viable to swap out one of the later feats for Spell Specialization and make a spell such as Boneshatter even more powerful.
  • Again, the final stat boost can be randomly attributed as it won't actually make any mechanical difference.

Sorcerous Reflex

  • While this build is largely focused on Necromancy, it would be easy to slot in an Expanded Arsenal to let Sosiel double up on spell schools. Potential swaps would be for School Mastery or Sorcerous Reflex.
  • Getting Favorite Metamagic will reduce the spell level cost of your Reach spells by one. Functionally, this means it's totally free to apply the Reach metamagic to all of the spells that can handle it, though they will take longer to cast in actuality. The idea is to get Sosiel to a safe place and let him spew out magic like a turret.
  • Ascendant Element (Negative Energy) is quite crucial to this build as you'll be using a lot of negative energy spells in a game with lots of enemies who like to resist that sort of thing.

Useful Spells

Level 1: Bless, Inflict Light Wounds, Remove Fear, Unbreakable Heart

Level 2: Lesser Restoration, Effortless Armor, Boneshaker, Inflict Moderate Wounds, Communal Protection from Alignment

Level 3: Archon’s Aura, Bestow Curse, Blindness, Prayer, Communal Resist Energy

Level 4: Inflict Critical Wounds, Communal Protection from Energy, Restoration, Greater Magic Weapon, Dismissal

Level 5: Boneshatter, Life Bubble, Cleanse, Flame Strike, Breath of Life, Burst of Glory

Level 7: Mass Inflict Serious Wounds, Destruction, Bestow Greater Curse, Holy Word

Level 8: Soulreaver, Rift of Ruin, Shield of Law, Death Clutch, Greater Angelic Aspect

Level 9: Mass Heal, Energy Drain

  • Don't forget that in addition to these spells, Sosiel will have all of the Cure Wounds spells at his disposal.
  • Spells like Bestow Curse and Blindness can be extremely brilliant for turning the tides of battle - consider grabbing Metamagic (Heighten Spell) to keep them viable until the end.

Bulwark 20: STR +1

  • We take the Bulwark animal companion archetype for its damage resistance bonuses and automatic acquisition of Medium Barding Proficiency.
    • It gets the latter at level nine, so we take Heavy Barding Proficiency immediately to provide the best access to armor.
  • Feats are spent either to make the companion more defensive (Toughness, Diehard, Great Fortitude) or to make them more useful outside of battle (Endurance, Shingle Runner).
  • With 20 points put into Athletics and Mobility, a level 20 elk with this build reaches a +44 bonus to Athletics checks and a +36 bonus to Mobility checks.
  • Alternative animal companion choices that would make for great tanks are Leopard, Boar, and Mastodon.
