There are a few games that come to mind when you think of the words "hauntingly beautiful." Shadow of the Colossus is one. Journey is another. Ori and the Blind Forest a third. A fourth just might be Spirit of the North, a new game from Raleigh, North Carolina-based indie developer, Infuse Studio.

"Begin a quiet journey of discovery and companionship and awaken the slumbering Spirit of the North," describe's the game's website while forgetting to mention that you're a fox. Not a magical or super-powered fox--just a regular old American red fox. However, you do have a magical friend in the form of a female spirit fox. She's the Guardian of the Northern Lights, and she needs your help to go wake up the Spirit of the North.

Along the way, you'll explore the ruins of an ancient civilization, solving puzzles and getting that tingly sensation that comes from seeing something so incredibly gorgeous while simultaneously listening to a piano-driven musical score.

Like Journey, there's no narration and no voice acting. It's just you, the visuals, and the music. And that's more than enough.

Spirit of the North released on PlayStation 4 last November, but it's coming to PC and the Nintendo Switch this Spring, and you can try the game out yourself at PAX East 2020. Infuse Studio is at booth 32036 from today until Sunday showing off the latest build of their game.

On top of that, just announced on Wednesday is a physical release for Spirit of the North. In collaboration with indie game printer Signature Edition Games, Spirit of the North will come in both a standard Physical Edition (which is just the game in a box) and a Signature Edition which will include a certificate of authenticity, a special art card, two enamel pins, and a CD of the game's soundtrack.

Spirit of the North’s physical release is available for pre-order now on both Switch and PS4. The game will release on Steam digitally sometime this Spring, so stay tuned.
