HBO is reportedly paying Pedro Pascal $6 million to play Joel in its TV adaptation of The Last Of Us.

The team responsible for turning The Last Of Us into a TV show over at HBO is currently hard at work. The show's first season is in production right now and appears to be taping the part of the game that takes place in Boston's quarantine zone. That's what the latest images leaked from the set in Canada suggest anyway.

The set and the cast are a clear indicator that HBO is incredibly serious about not only making this work, but making it into a show that everyone will be talking about. Each episode reportedly has a budget of at least $10 million, and according to a new report, a significant slice of that is going to Pedro Pascal.

Variety reports that Pascal will earn $6 million for playing Joel during The Last Of Us's first season. Since it has already been confirmed that the show's first season will be ten episodes long, that works out at $600,000 per episode. That figure is apparently before tax, union fees, and anything else that has to come out of it, but it still means Pascal will be taking home a lot of money for his work.

Pascal was one of the first cast members revealed on the show alongside Bella Ramsey, best known for her work as Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones. Ramsey will play Ellie on the show. Other key roles such as Tommy and Marlene have also already been cast. It has also been reported, but not confirmed, that HBO's first choice for Joel was Matthew McConaughey but the Hollywood star turned it down.

Since production is still ongoing, and in its early stages, there is no word yet on when The Last Of Us will debut. It is slated to air at some point in 2022, but exactly when in the next year that will be likely depends on a lot of factors. It's good to keep hearing how serious HBO is about the project though, as well as reports that the show will follow the game's story very closely.
