Though he crops up in other titles in the Persona series as well, in Persona 3 Portable, both protagonists are able to meet and spend time with President Tanaka, producer and host of television’s hit sales program, Tanaka’s Amazing Commodities.

And while the man himself is rather crass and a bit too forward sometimes, your social link with him to cover the Devil arcana for P3P shows him develop a softness for your protagonist as he offers you business advice. For help with maxing out your social link with Tanaka in Persona 3 Portable, you’ve come to the right place.

This guide will contain spoilers for subplots of Persona 3 Portable.

President Tanaka has one of the most involved social links to unlock of anyone in Persona 3 Portable. Unlocking the Devil arcana social link requires not only a skill check, but reaching a certain rank of another social link, as well as ¥40,000 total that you will not get back.

The requirements to unlock Tanaka’s social link are different between the two protagonists.

Male Protagonist

The first step to beginning President Tanaka’s P3P social link is reaching Rank 4 of your Hermit social link with Maya. After this, Tanaka will appear at Paulownia Mall.

Before he’ll speak to you, the male protagonist must have reached Rank 4 Charm.

Female Protagonist

Since your Hermit social link is with Saori Hasegawa instead, the dialogue is different. When playing as the female protagonist, you’ll trigger Tanaka’s appearance at Paulownia Mall after Rank 2 of the Hermit social link.

Once he appears, the female protagonist must have Rank 2 Charm to get him to speak with her.

Paying President Tanaka

Finally, once he’s appeared at the mall and will speak to you, you’ll need to give Tanaka cash over the next few days to finish unlocking the Devil social link.

  • The first time you speak to him, he asks for ¥20,000.
  • The next time, he requests ¥10,000.
  • After handing over another ¥10,000 the night after that, your social link finally begins.

While the overall tone of Tanaka’s social link in P3P is the same between the protagonists, they have different responses to his bizarre teachings.
