Marie And Kusumi-No-Okami Battle Setup

marie saying she can't turn away and has to die in persona 4 golden

You'll encounter Marie at the end of her P4G-exclusive dungeon, the Hollow Forest. The battle has two stages - you'll first face Marie, until she transforms into Kusumi-no-Okami.

It's important to note that, just like the dungeon itself, your SP will be halved after Marie transforms into Kusumi-no-Okami.

Because of this, spend time collecting SP-replenishing items around the dungeon before the fight, as in the second stage of the fight, you'll be relying on magic damage.

Additionally, you may want to head back to the entrance to swap party members out or visit The Fox before the fight.

Since you'll be focused on dealing magic damage in the fight ahead, you'll need your strongest magic-users to keep your head above water, as well as a healer for when you can spare the SP.

Since the attack may do damage to the party, we'd recommend using this move sparingly.

Elemental Armors

As you went through the Hollow Forest, you likely found many pieces of elemental-resistance armor along the way.

If you weren't already, use the magic-resistant armor during the fight with Marie and Kusumi-no-Okami, specifically to cover a teammate's weakness.

The battle ahead is already long, so dampen how much damage your teammates take by protecting their weaknesses by equipping them with the armor before the battle begins.

With your SP constantly being drained in this dungeon, a Persona that knows Cool Breeze - which restores eight percent of your HP and SP after each fight - is invaluable.

Marie And Kusumi-No-Okami Battle Strategy

the p4g investigation team approaching marie before the kusumi-no-okami boss fight in persona 4 goldenFirst Stage: Marie

When the fight begins, you and the Team will be facing Marie herself.

It's important to note before going in that you cannot win this stage of the fight. Marie is simply the first form of a much meaner battle ahead.

It's critical to avoid physical damage here, as Marie has Alienation Wall, a passive skill that repels physical damage. Even if you do manage to hit her, Marie resists physical attacks, anyway.

To move things along, use strong elemental magic on Marie, being conscious of your SP consumption. You need to deplete roughly a third of Marie's HP to move on.

You'll know this stage is approaching its end when Marie uses the move Shell of Denial. This move repels all magic damage, and with the fight ending in a moment, this is a great time to guard and heal before the next stage.

After the three turns, the next stage begins.

Second Phase: Kusumi-No-Okami

To get through a battle with a deity that has so many affinities, you'll need to rely on elemental Break skills or items, and moves that inflict almighty damage.

As you may guess, this phase of the fight consumes a lot of SP, which is unfortunate, considering that physical damage is significantly unhelpful in the battle.

Use your SP-replenishing items fairly liberally in this fight, as the SP-drain can be a make-or-break impact for some players.

Should you attack with magic you've not broken Kusumi-no-Okami's resistance to yet, she repels all attacks except almighty.

If a character doesn't have a move that you know will land, it's a good time for them to buff, debuff, heal, or guard instead of wasting SP on a move that doesn't work.

Unless it's your only option for the element you need, avoid using multi-target Ma- skills to consume SP.

These multi-target variants consume notedly more SP than their single-target counterparts.

Additionally, you may notice Kusumi-no-Okami damage herself by using Draining Fog. It does suck to lose your SP, but the move also damages the deity to counteract the reduction a bit.

You'll know you have Kusmi-no-Okami on the ropes when she, like Marie, casts Cry of Denial and Enclosure Shell.

From there, continue the method of breaking her resistances and attacking with that magic, and the fight ought to be over in no time.
