If you thought the battle against Adachi in Persona 4 Golden was bad, you haven’t met Ameno-Sagiri, the spirit of fog that’s been puppeteering Adachi’s actions the whole time. And now that Adachi has been disposed of, it’s time for Ameno-Sagiri to come out and fight you itself – and it’s far meaner than its first stage was.

A careful balance of offense and defense is required to beat Ameno-Sagiri in P4G as you work through the stages of the battle. Without time to heal or change your party before this fight in Persona 4 Golden, here’s how to defeat Ameno-Sagiri.

This guide contains major spoilers for the endgame of Persona 4 Golden.

Ameno-Sagiri Battle Setup

While we normally make full party, level, and Persona recommendations in this section, the battle against Ameno-Sagiri is a bit different.

The fight with Ameno-Sagiri begins immediately after you defeat the Mastermind.

This means you will not have time to change your party setup or Persona stock after the battle with Adachi. Whoever you brought with you into the Mastermind fight at the end of Magatsu Inaba will be in the fight with Ameno-Sagiri as well.

Additionally, your team does not heal or regain SP between fights. Whatever damage Adachi did to them will carry over into the Ameno-Sagiri fight.

This does put you at a slight disadvantage, so you may want to spend the first turn healing a bit if needed.

We used Kanji, Yosuke, and Yukiko during the fight with Adachi, but you'll use them a bit differently with Ameno-Sagiri.

Teammate

Their Strength in This Fight

Kanji

  • Ziodyne with Elec Amp (learned at Lv. 75)
  • Primal Force to deal severe physical damage
    • Vile Assault costs less in HP and still does heavy damage, if Kanji is too hurt for Primal Force. Vile Assault does additional damage to downed foes.
    • Both can do additional damage after using Power Charge, which Kanji learns at Rank 6 of his social link
    • Regenerate 1 to regain 2% of his HP after each turn in battle

Yosuke

  • Garudyne with Wind Amp (learned at Lv. 73)
  • Brave Blade to deal severe physical damage
  • Buffs to increase the party's evasion
  • Dekaja is invaluable in the fight ahead, which Yosuke will learn at Rank 4 of his social link

Yukiko

  • Healer, specifically with Mediarahan for this fight
  • Agidyne with Fire Amp (learned at Lv. 76) if you have time to use her offensively
    • Power up her moves with Mind Charge from the final level of her bike skills

We also stick by Yoshitsune and Trumpeter as great choices for this fight.

Yoshitsune can now safely deal the physical damage for which it's renowned, and its signature move, Hassou Tobi, is one of the strongest physical moves in the game.

While Hassou Tobi only deals light physical damage, it does so eight times per use. Pair this with Yoshitsune's Power Charge to really do some damage.

Trumpeter can help with Ameno-Sagiri's wide swath of status moves that it uses regularly in the back half of the fight by using Debilitate to cancel what Ameno-Sagiri does to itself, while canceling decreases for your team with Heat Riser.

Both Personas repel electric and light magic, which renders them immune not only from the Zio magic, but also from losing half their HP to God's Judgement.

Yoshitsune also blocks physical attacks and resists fire, while Trumpeter absorbs ice. With every kind of magic at Ameno-Sagiri's disposal, you never know which affinities may come in handy.

Ameno-Sagiri Battle Strategy

ameno-sagiri at the very beginning of the fight with ameno-sagiri in persona 4 golden p4g

We mentioned it before in our guide to the first stage of this battle against Adachi, but it bears repeating that your team does not regain their HP or SP before the fight with Ameno-Sagiri.

It's helpful if you can have Yukiko heal on her last turn in Adachi's battle, but healing with Mediarahan on her first turn here can be just as helpful.

Yukiko's Salvation skill can regularly be used following Ameno-Sagiri's Foolish Whisper. Silenced teammates have their stats cut in half and can't use skills.

However, Salvation costs a whopping 40SP per use, so stick to using Mediarahan unless the team has been silenced.

When the battle with Ameno-Sagiri begins, it will focus almost exclusively on dealing heavy elemental damage, so the more your team is able to block or cancel, the better.

It will occasionally splice Foolish Whisper into this pattern to try to stop you from striking back, but the majority of its attention seems to go to its -dyne spells.

While Ameno-Sagiri does have an impressive arsenal of attacks, it adds new attacks in stages, depending on its current HP.

  • Full health to 75 percent: Ameno-Sagiri focuses primarily on magic attacks of any element.
  • 75-50 percent: Ameno-Sagiri adds Nebula Oculus and Agneyastra to its repertoire.
  • 50-25 percent: You may now have to deal with Bewildering Fog.
  • 25 percent onward: Ameno-Sagiri will roll out Quake to try to down the team, as the move has a pretty good chance of getting one or two or your party members down.

The biggest and arguably most unique problem comes around the halfway mark in the fight with Ameno-Sagiri in P4G, as it begins using Bewildering Fog to render itself completely immune for two turns.

Since you can't deal damage to Ameno-Sagiri while Bewildering Fog is active, it's a good time to have the team heal and buff.

However, while cloaked in this Fog, Ameno-Sagiri can boost its stats or use Mind Charge to make itself a real problem when the fog is lifted.

If you see Ameno-Sagiri use either of these moves while you're unable to cancel them, have the team block when Bewildering Fog lifts, as Ameno-Sagiri will be doing a vastly-increased amount of damage with the buffs you can't cancel.

However, Yosuke is able to use Dekaja (depending on your progress through his social link) to cancel all boosts applied while Bewildering Fog was active. Have him do this the first turn after Bewildering Fog to get the boosts back off Ameno-Sagiri as soon as possible.

In the final segment of its health, Ameno-Sagiri follows Quake with Bewildering Fog if it successfully knocked down someone on the team.

Outside all this, the fight is straightforward. Balance healing with outputting damage to get through the fight with relative ease, and sit back as the story you knew in Persona 4 Golden so far comes to an end.
