With Persona 5 Royal just on the horizon, set to be released on March 31, it's almost time to take another dive head-first into the world of Persona 5. There's so much you can do in Persona 5 that it can be a bit overwhelming but one of the most important things to do is leveling up your confidants.

Maxing out confidant levels allows you to build relationships with the major characters you interact with which in turn unlocks some nice perks like discounts at shops or getting more money from battles. It can be hard to max out all your confidants, but we have some tips you might not have known that could help.

10 Give Gifts

One of the easiest things you can do to help level up your Confidants is giving them gifts. In the original release, you could only give gifts to female Confidants but in Royal, you can now also give gifts to your male Confidants.

Gift giving is a quick and easy way to raise your bond with Confidants and you can buy gifts from a bunch of stores throughout the game that you can hold on to until you find the perfect chance to give them to your Confidants.

9 Use Your Time Wisely

The Persona games are one part supernatural, turn-based RPG, and one part high school dating sim, but throughout it all there's a huge element of time management. There's so much to do in Persona 5 and only a set amount of time to do it so you have to be sure to manage your time wisely.

Out of all the activities available to you, maxing out your Confidant levels should be your top priority when you're outside Palaces. If you're not managing your time wisely, you'll soon find yourself with not enough time to level up your Confidants.

8 Ignore Part-Time Jobs

Free time can be spent earning some quick cash at a part-time job. You can find jobs at the convenience store, flower shop, the beef bowl shop, and the Crossroads Bar. Other than the Crossroads Bar, where you can work to increase your social stats, we recommend ignoring the part-time jobs.

Why? In the end, taking part-time jobs wastes too much time for not enough reward. The second ranks of the Sun arcana Confidant allows you to negotiate with shadows multiple times and the money you can get from that far outweighs what you can earn at a job.

7 Max Out Your Social Stats

Confidant ranks aren't the only thing you can level up during your free time in Persona 5, you can also rank up your social stats. Your social stats are essentially your character's personality traits, and it's split into knowledge, guts, proficiency, kindness, and charm.

If you want to max out your Confidant ranks than you're also going to need to max out your social stats. This is because there are several instances where you need your social stats at certain levels to rank up a Confidant's level.

6 The Big Bang Burger Challenge

In central Shibuya you can find the Big Bang Burger restaurant, where you can partake in the Big Bang Burger challenge, a series of three increasingly difficult burgers to eat. The burger challenge is a great way to help increase your social stats, in turn helping you increase your Confidants.

Successfully completing the burger challenge will increase your guts, knowledge, charm and proficiency, while failing the challenge will still net you an increase of your guts stat. However, keep in mind that to even start the challenge, your guts, knowledge, and proficiency need to be level two.

5 Complete Palaces In One Day

When we say complete Palaces in one day, we mean finding the route to the Treasure Room in one day. When you're finally allowed to explore a Palace, you have loads of days to be allowed to complete them. You could leave Palaces to regroup and restock then pick up where you left off the next day, but that's an inefficient use of your time.

We recommend entering Palaces the day they become available and not leaving until you've found the route to the Palace's treasure room. By getting it all done in one day, you don't waste any days and you usually get around a month of in-game days free to then spend time with your Confidants.

4 Level Up Fortune Confidant ASAP

If you were planning to max out all of your Confidant levels you were going to level up the Fortune Confidant, Chihaya Mifune, anyway but once you've unlocked her as a Confidant we'd recommend that you level up her rank to at least rank 7 as soon as possible.

The reason is that at rank 7,  you unlock Chihaya's affinity reading. The affinity readings gives you an extra affinity point for the Confidant of your choosing, making it easier to level them up. The best part is that these readings don't take up your free activity time.

3 Choosing The Right Dialogue Choice

Persona 5 is a very dialogue heavy, story-driven game. When spending time with your Confidants, you're often given opportunities to respond to things your Confidants say. You can pick from either two or three dialogue choices but before choosing one, it's best to know that what you pick has an effect.

Each Confidant is different and each want to be spoken to in a certain way so you need to pick the dialogue choice that best reflects the Confidant you're speaking to. You'll know when you've picked the right choice when three music notes bounce above your Confidant. We'd recommend saving before talking to Confidants in case you pick the wrong choice and need to reload.

2 Have A Persona Of The Same Arcana

When spending time with Confidants it's imperative that you make sure to have a persona in your stock with the matching arcana of the Confidant you're spending time with. So for example, if you want to level up Ryuji, who is the Chariot Confidant, we recommend that you bring along a persona with the Chariot arcana.

Bringing a persona with the same arcana as the Confidant will give you a bonus point for all rewarding dialogue options. That means a dialogue option that would normally give you +2 will instead give you +3 if you've brought a corresponding persona.

1 Don't Stress Out

The main thing to remember when leveling your Confidants is to not stress out so much. If you keep our tips in mind you should have plenty of time to max out your Confidants, and you might even find that it's surprisingly easy. But if not, you could always continue leveling them up in new game+, which we recommend you do anyway because there's still loads of content there for you to enjoy.
