Playing through the critically acclaimed Persona 5 for the very first time is a wonderfully magical experience. The blend of turn-based, dungeon-exploring gameplay with a high school life simulator has been tweaked to perfection this time around, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a 100+ hour experience that is daunting to new players.

It's completely understandable to get lost in the tons of different Personas to collect, the seemingly endless amount of fusion possibilities in the Velvet Room, and to be lost as to which Personas you should be using. As a first-time player, these are ten Personas that'll treat you right.

10 Ame-no-Uzume

We'll be listing these Personas in order of the level that they can be acquired at, starting at level 13 with Ame-no-Uzume. This Persona will have one of the higher Magic stats compared to other Personas around this level and has a diverse and unique moveset to put it to use.

With Mazio and Magaru, it's able to deal with many different types of enemies, especially due to its singular weakness to Psychokinesis. It is also going to be the prime healing choice for quite a while, as it learns both Media and Divine Grace. Overall, this is a well-balanced and easy to use Persona to get comfortable with the game's mechanics.

9 Shiki-Ouji

Are you tired of being hit during battles? Well, Shiki-Ouji is the perfect Persona for you, as long as you're only taking physical damage, Bless, or Curse. Having a Persona this early in the game that can nullify four different types of attacks is a huge plus against a ton of enemies.

Shiki-Ouji has some pretty good stats with some Psy and physical skills to attack with but greatly benefits from getting some better skills passed through fusion to make better use of its Strength stat.

8 Izanagi

While Izanagi was limited to DLC in the base Persona 5, all of the legacy DLC is provided a free download for Royal players. It's understandable that some players might not want to summon these powerful DLC Personas from the Compendium for free, but Izanagi can actually be obtained through fusion.

He's just as solid and balanced as you'd expect from a protagonist's Persona, with a great balance of Electric and Physical skills to tear apart most enemies that stand in your way.

7 Setanta

Here we have one of many Personas with a high Strength stat and high-damaging moves, but Setanta is one of the earliest ones that can learn Charge, and it makes great use of it as well.

It also learns Counter and Rebellion, allowing it to both reflect enemy attacks and dish out some seriously powerful ones. Setanta will remain a great Persona for quite a while, so fusing it at level 25 is highly recommended.

6 Ose

Ose has largely the same gameplan as Setanta, having a high Strength stat and devastating attacks, but it has much more defensive and offensive options to make use of at level 42. Ose has Gun and Curse nullifications and Fire resistance, only being weak to Bless skills.

Oni-Kagura, Tempest Slash, and Heat Wave are all great options for attacks, Counterstrike and Charge are great for any physical-based Persona, and Matarukaja helps it evade oncoming attacks to keep its head in the game.

5 Bugs

Bugs is one of many Personas created through Special Fusion with three unique Personas, being Hariti, Pisaca, and Pixie. At level 49, Bugs has both high and balanced stats for its level, along with high-rank skills like Psiodyne and Triple Down.

Its Agility stat is its primary focus at a base 32 along with Auto-Matarukaja, Masukunda, and Evade Physical to really make it hard to catch. The last skill it learns is Fast Heal, which halves the time it takes to recover from ailments, making it one of few Personas to learn it.

4 Norn

Persona and Shin Megami Tensei have always excelled at designing all of their monsters and deities, and Norn's intricate and unique design is a prime example. Apart from looking awesome, Norn has just about anything you could want in a Persona.

It has no weaknesses, repelling Electric, absorbing Wind, and resisting Bless, has both Ziodyne and Garudyne to make great use of its Magic stat, and healing skills like Diarahan and Samarecarm to assist the party.

3 Black Frost

Jack Frost is cool and all, but what if he was a being created of pure malice that comes equipped with some of the most damaging skills in the game and was completely immune to half of the attack types in the game? Well, you'd have Black Frost.

It repels Fire and Curse, absorbs Ice, and nullifies Nuclear, making it a great option against a ton of enemies, especially when paired with accessories or bonus skills that resist more attack types. Mabufudyne, One-Shot Kill, Ice Amp, and Diamond Dust absolutely obliterate most enemies in their paths, making Black Frost one formidable hee-ho.

2 Surt

Surt has always been a high-level endgame demon with monstrous damage output and an amazing moveset, and this stays true into Persona 5 Royal. Its only weakness is Ice and it is strong against four elements, making it tricky to take down while it burns down anything in its path.

When paired with Fire Amp, Blazing Hell is seriously powerful, but it also has some notable physical skills like Brave Blade and Gigantomachia. Getting Charge or Concentrate on Surt is extremely helpful, so do it if you can.

1 Yoshitsune

Yoshitsune is one of the most popular Personas in the series due to it being an absolute powerhouse. It's tied for the second-highest base Strength stat in the game along with Satanael, and only at level 87 at that.

While it has basic moves like Brave Blade, Charge, and Ziodyne, its most devastating and iconic skill is Hassou Tobi, which attacks an enemy with light physical attacks eight times in a row, and this obliterates health bars when paired with Charge and Tarukaja.
