A new character trailer for Persona 5 Royal, focusing on Futaba Sakura, has been released. It seems that Futaba will play a greater role in combat than she did in Persona 5, as it will be possible for her to aid the Phantom Thieves in battle with the help of her brand new spaceship.

Persona 5 Royal is introducing the concept of third-tier Personas, where a party member can fuse their two Personas together into a new form. In Persona 5, the members of the Phantom Thieves could only use one Persona, with the exception of Joker, as his status as a Wild Card allowed him to use numerous Personas. If the player maxed out a party member's Social Link, their Persona would evolve into a new form. The character trailer for Futaba in Persona 5 Royal has revealed her unnamed third Persona, which appears to be a sleek alien spaceship.

Futaba's new Persona isn't just for show, either, as it allows her to engage in battle during the All-Out Attack. In Persona 5, if the player manages to strike all enemies using an element that they are weak against, then they can perform an action called an All-Out Attack, where every party member on the field strikes the enemy at once. In Persona 5 Royal, it will now be possible for Futaba to take part in the All-Out Attack, as she can drop a bomb on the enemy which sends her flying towards the player. Futaba now has special character artwork for the All-Out Attack, which includes a message saying "Git Gud", which is presumably aimed at the monster she just blew up.

In Persona 5, Futaba was the Navigator of the Phantom Thieves, which meant that she aided the group from afar. The addition of the new All-Out Attack, will finally allow her to fight alongside the Phantom Thieves. Futaba's ability to join in during All-Out Attacks is similar to a new addition that was made to Persona 4 Golden, which allowed Rise Kujikawa to aid her friends in battle, as she was also the Navigator in that game.

The character trailer for Persona 5 Royal also showed more footage of the New Year's Eve event, which involves the female party members wearing kimonos. This scene will be part of an entirely new section of the game that happens during the third semester of Joker's school year.

Persona 5 Royal will be released for the PlayStation 4 in Japan on October 31, 2019, and internationally in 2020.
