New information about Persona 5 Royal has been revealed in an interview for Weekly Famitsu that discusses the content that will be added to the game. The director and producer of the game are claiming that the amount of new content will be bigger than that of Persona 4 Golden, which was the updated version of Persona 4.

Persona 5 Royal is an upcoming updated release of Persona 5 that will add new content to the game, in the form of a new Phantom Thief and the third semester of Joker’s school year actually being playable.

The interview in Weekly Famitsu has revealed more information about the new content being added to Persona 5. According to Gematsu, Persona 5 Royal will make it easier to level up by giving the player additional experience points. The Assist features which were briefly shown in the trailer are there to help guide the player by based on the decisions that they make in the game.

Persona 5 Royal will offer new Confidants outside of the ones currently revealed and players with save data for Persona 5 will receive some kind of benefit, though they won’t be able to use the save data, due to the differences in the game. There will also be twenty new background music tracks added to the game.

The third semester alone is promised to feature so much new content that it will go beyond what Persona 4 Golden did for Persona 4. In Persona 4 Golden, the new content included two Confidants, a new dungeon, a new ending, new difficulty levels, new music, new animated cutscenes, new seasonal events, the ability for the protagonist to explore the town at night, new costumes, a revamped battle system, and new Personas. Persona 5 Royal is going to need a lot of new content in order to match Persona 4 Golden.

The interview also suggested that there would be a scene where Joker sleeps in bed with a handsome man. The Joker x Yusuke shippers might be excited by this revelation, but it’s likely referring to how Morgana will somehow transform into a man in Persona 5 Royal. Morgana generally sleeps on Joker at night, so some sort of comedic scene where Joker wakes up with human Morgana in bed with him seems likely to happen.

Persona 5 Royal is due to be released outside of Japan in 2020.
