Thankfully, plenty of things carry over into P5R’s New Game Plus that’ll make your second year in Tokyo even smoother than the first. To learn what carries into P5R’s NG+, we’ve got you covered.

Updated on March 15, 2023 by Gabrielle Castania: The hype around Persona 5 Royal has yet to die down, and with the game still so beloved by fans, we wanted to take a moment to dive back into some older guides to give them a bit of TLC for the newest waves of Phantom Thieves. If you’re ready to head back to Shujin yet again and take on another year of thieving, our Persona 5 Royal New Game Plus starter guide has all the info you’ll want to know before you start.

Since you can't begin a NG+ run of Persona 5 Royal until beating the game to completion the first time through, this guide will contain spoilers for the plot of Persona 5 Royal.

Why Start Persona 5 Royal's New Game Plus?

Joker in Persona 5 Royal

For as much as some folks love P5R, you may be wondering why someone might opt for a NG+ run of the game with a three-digit completion time. But, Persona is an intensely beloved JRPG that’s consistently ranked among the best and most iconic, and some fans just simply can’t get enough.

First, there may be things you missed your first time through the game that you’d like to see, or that you need to see to 100 percent your completion. It’s actually not possible to 100 percent the game without playing NG+.

One of the reasons for that is that you can’t finish the Compendium your first time through the game.

You’ll need to play Persona 5 Royal’s New Game Plus in order to fully finish it, as there’s no way for you to log Satanael, the Persona Joker used to defeat Yaldabaoth at the end of your first run, after the fight with the game’s final boss.

With the Compendium carrying over, you can get Satanael right out again for immediate use.

With 47 total trophies and achievements, many of which are tied to events and optional decisions you may not have made, a NG+ is a great way to finish your trophy collection.

Additionally, with such an intense schedule required to see and do everything in the game, if you’ve not been following along with our 100 percent guides for the game, you may miss some social links your first time around.

You won’t need to go back through the ones you’ve completed already, but NG+ is a great way to spend time with social links you missed. You could also choose to romance a different character than you did the first time (or even choose to date all of them at once).

Personas: Bring Your Compendium

With the Compendium as such a central tennet to the Persona 5 Royal experience, you're no doubt wondering how many of your fusions and super-powered Personas will carry over.

Persona Information That Carries Over

Notes

Your Compendium

Your entire Compendium. However it was when you finished your first playthrough is how it will be when you unlock the Compendium in NG+

Log the Personas needed for your Strength confidant exactly as the twins request them. This way, you can simply withdraw and show these Personas to them as you can afford them for a quick way to level your Strength confidant. This is especially true if you didn't finish the Twin's confidant the first time around, as it will let you skip the fusion involvedf in the first few rankings of their confidant.

Elemental Affinity Data from Combat

Any data you learned about enemy affinities and weaknesses during battle.

Whether you actually caught the Persona in question, any Personas you've battled already in the first playthrough will not require analysis before you know their weak spots this time around. (This is true outside the tutorial battles, which will still force you to play through as if it's your first time.)

Just beware that using high-level Personas in the early game can make your first few palaces ridiculously easy. If this is the intended goal, great!

But, if you'd like a bit of a challenge again your second time through, we'd recommend saving the super-powered Personas for later.

Stats: Yours And The Team

We know you worked really hard on your social stats the first time through the game! However, with so much tied to so many different stats, it's possible you may have had to miss out on a social link because a stat wasn't high enough, or you may not even have finished ranking up your stats at all.

Regardless, if you're curious about which stats carry over into NG+, the answers are in the table below.

Stats That Carry Over

What Carries Over?

Notes

Social Stats

Whatever your social stats were when you finished your first run is what you'll start with in your second run.

If you finished all your social stats in your first game, you won't need to spend any time working on them in NG+ and can get right into your social links and activities. If you didn't max out all your stats, now's your chance.

HP and SP Gains

Added bonuses from optional training.

Any training you had Joker do last game (training at home or meditating at the temple) will carry over. Boosts related to any confidants will not be applied until the confidant is unlocked.

Jazz Club Cocktail Effects

All skills your team learned from going to the Jazz Club.

Your teammates will not keep boosts they earned through Sunday cocktails, just from regular visits.

Your player level does not carry over. However, getting to keep the Compendium and your stat increases will help boost you back up pretty fast.

Your Inventory: Money, Goodies, And More

Persona 5 Can Dos Part Time Job

It's not cheap to be a Phantom Thief! Throughout your first run of the game, you spend countless yen on weapons, armor, and more - so what of that will still be with you in your New Game Plus save?

Items That Carry Over

Notes

Yen Earned

Whatever money you have at the end of your original game will be in your wallet when you begin your NG+ run.

Some players who know they're going into a NG+ will farm for yen before finishing their original game, accessing high-level enemies and levels of Mementos to reap the best rewards while they're right there and able. You can buy back your strong Personas, but strong Personas are expensive to withdraw, so be sure to bring some money if you're aiming to use them early.

Battle Equipment

  • All weapons
  • All armor
  • All accessories

Check your team before you begin your infiltrations, though - these items do not automatically re-equip onto you or your teammates, so be sure to do it manually to reap the benefits!

Key Items

Any item received when you maxed out a social link in the first run of the game. Anything filed in the Key Items pocket will also remain, including Christmas gifts from any girlfriends.

These items will allow immediate fusion of the Ultimate Personas of each arcana for which you have the item.

Gun Customizations

Any modifications made to your guns at Untouchables.

You earn better customization options the closer you grow to Munehisa Iwai, the shop owner, so it's worth ranking up his confidant for the new gear and discounts!

Skill Cards

Any unused skill cards.

If a skill card has been applied to a Persona, it will be used up in your stock. Only cards that haven't been used yet will carry over. If you used a card but forgot to register the Persona with that new move before you fused or got rid of it, you'll need to get that card again.

Minigame Equipment

All fishing rods and the specialty dart.

Although shooting billiards is all but essential to making your party more powerful, you won't get to keep the Jump Cue you'll earn from going.

Eternal Lockpick

Lockpick that allows you to break into any locked chest without crafting consumable lockpicks.

If you didn't get it in your first game, we've got a guide to crafting the Eternal Lockpick to help you out this time.

Anything not mentioned in the table above will disappear in your NG+, so feel free to use up all your consumable medicines and SP-replenishing items during your final battle!

Miscellanious Things That Carry Over

Finally, in this section, you'll find the odd and end stats and achievements that don't fit neatly into our other three categories above, but that still carry over into your P5R New Game Plus.

What Carries Over?

Notes

Playtime

The number of hours logged in Persona 5 Royal.

When you begin your Persona 5 Royal New Game Plus, you'll start from the playtime you ended with on your last run and continue logging it from there, instead of beginning at zero.

Velvet Room Challenge Rewards

High scores and rewards from Velvet Room Challenges.

-

Stamps from Mementos

Any stamps you collected for Jose your first time through.

If you didn't find all the stamps your first time through, this is a great chance to find the few you missed so that you can take on Jose this time around.

With all of the above considered before you start, you're now officially ready to begin your P5R New Game Plus run. Good luck out there - again!
