Though not one of the Phantom Thieves herself, befriending Hifumi Togo, the shogi player in Persona 5 Royal, is sure to make your palace infiltrations that much easier. A quiet and demure lady, your Persona 5 Royal Star confidant is ready to shun the starlight of celebrity to focus on playing shogi to her heart’s content.
Hifumi’s confidant can be tricky to unlock and even more difficult to progress, so follow along with our guide below for how to smoothly progress Hifumi’s confidant.

We’ve reorganized our guide on P5R’s Hifumi confidant to help you steal hearts in a much friendlier way.
Availability And Perks
Hifumi's confidant ranking can begin on 6/26, but there are certain unlock conditions you'll need to meet before you can begin speaking to her.
- Yusuke Kitagawa tells you about a shogi player from his school during his Rank 2 hangout scene.
- Then, to unlock the Kanda district where Hifumi hangs out, watch television on 6/25.
- Before you can speak to Hifumi after these conditions are met, you need to be at least Level 3 Charm.
Once you've met these three conditions, travel to Kanda at night and speak to Hifumi to begin Persona 5 Royal's Star confidant.
After Hifumi's social link has been started, she's available to spend time with at night on Monday, Wednesday, Saturday, or Sunday. If it's raining, she will be available during the daytime as well, but many of her ranking-up events are locked to occur on sunny days.
Like your other Confidants, Hifumi grants Joker new battle abilities with every odd-numbered ranking. And while she doesn't come into dungeons with the team, the abilities she gives Joker are sometimes pivotal to their operation.

Rank-Up Events
You should be no stranger to leveling Confidants by the time you meet Hifumi at least two months into your year in Tokyo, but as with everyone else, your P5R Star confidant levels up quicker if you bring a Persona of the Star arcana when you spend time with her. You’ll earn an extra point for each dialogue choice under these circumstances, so definitely make use of the bonus points.

The only dialogue choice that gives affinity points is the final one, when Hifumi calls you.

Non-Rank Invited Hangouts
Hifumi, like your other Confidants, will occasionally text Joker to ask him to hang out. While agreeing will not raise your relationship with Hifumi, you still earn points toward her ranking for attending. Replying as soon as you open the message will give you a 1.2x affinity boost during the hangout, with your other bonus multipliers still in effect as well.
9/10 - Date In Hawaii
This event is only available if you have your Persona 5 Royal Star confidant at Rank 5 before leaving for Hawaii on your school trip. Be sure to grab a Star Persona on 9/6 before you leave, as you won't have access to the Velvet Room while abroad.
