Morgana was a magical character (see what we did there?) to say the least, and as such, he possessed personas from the Magician arcana. These magic-based personas are strong, but are the most useful against enemies who are weak to their attacks. They also possess unique debuff abilities which make for some solid defensive options. This arcana also presents some of the most unique in the game, with personas taking various forms and coming with entertaining backstories.

Sometimes, a persona is just fun to see and use, and the Magician arcana gives way to plenty of those. That isn't to say that the later-game personas aren't powerful, but they do pale in comparison to those such as personas which fall under the Fool arcana. We've ranked each persona in the Magician arcana according to most the weakest abilities all the way up to the strongest, along with a bit about the confidant who possesses this arcana: Morgana!

10 Jack-'o-Lantern

This fun little number is one of the first that most player will acquire in the game. While he's quite weak, he is fun to have and, of course, possesses the ability to cast fire attacks. The game remains in line with the backstory of this spooky fella and as is goes, Jack 'o

Lanterns got their name from 'Stingy Jack'. Stingy Jack was a farmer from Ireland who managed to manipulate his way out of going to hell - thus forced to wonder the earth, or in-between plane, for all eternity.

9 Jack Frost

Jack Frost is the cuter version of Black Frost (his evil counterpart under the Fool arcana). He's one of, if not the, most popular persona for fans, who adore his cute nature and his role as the Persona series mascot. Obviously, this little guy is responsible for any and all attacks relating to ice. This isn't just limited to attacks; Jack Frost also provides valuable cure, nullification, and boosts to freeze attacks as well. This makes him a well-balanced magic persona, even if his abilities are limited to an Arctic deep freeze.

8 Nekomata

Nekomata is basically the Japanese version of Cat Woman... Just kidding, sort of. In Japan, folklore tells of a woman who possesses cat-like features, thus Nekomata. Although players obtain her fairly early on in the game, she's not entirely weak and starts out at level 17. She's an attractive persona to say the least, featuring a feline face as well as a forked tail, traditionally representative of a woman turned Nekomata. Her abilities are both physical as well as defensive, offering defense against electric attacks and the suppression of wind damage against a foe.

7 Sandman

Yet another fairy tale-like persona, the Sandman has strictly magic attacks with the addition of a medium physical attack with the chance of inducing Sleep. His persona is quite intriguing, with a head shaped like a crescent moon and a humanoid body.

Obviously, most of his attacks come with the Sleep status ailment attached to them, but he does possess wind damage as well. His base level is what makes him so powerful but players need only use him if an enemy is susceptible to the Sleep ailment.

6 Choronzon

This terrifying persona is of mid-level strength, and he does appear far more scary than he actually is. The design of this persona was based on the description of a demon in 'The Book of Law', a novel by Aleister Crowley. Choronzon, also known as the Dweller of the Abyss, lends its power in many ways: Curse damage, Drain, evasion, and Confuse. This persona has a hand in a bit of everything, making it a well-balanced choice against foes who are prone to taking on damage from magic attacks. Additionally, his ailments are far stronger than any who have come before him.

5 Queen Mab

The Queen Mab persona is actually a veteran of the Persona series. She first premiered during Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, before Shin Megami Tensei transitioned to Persona games. The Queen is said to be a demon with a passion for waging war for no other reward than the glory that comes with winning. She's fairly powerful with a base level of 47 and eight initial attacks that players obtain along with her. She is weak against wind, but she's resistant to electric and can block fire attacks pretty successfully. She's also notable for her ability to remove magic shields from foes with her Makara Break attack.

4 Rangda

Rangda is another veteran of the series and goes back as far as the very first game. She's powerful and slightly terrifying, with an equally terrifying backstory to match. According to Bali folklore, Rangda was the Leyak's demon queen, leading a child-eating army of witches. She brings with her some pretty useful attacks, among them being Blood Bath, Counterstrike, Swift Strike, Eigaon, Matarunda, and Mudoon.

3 Surt

We see many personas that have roots all the way back to the earlier games, and Surt is yet another one which premiered in the very first. Long-time fans of the games will likely recognize him and his unique appearance. According to Norse mythology, Surt is a Norse god who guards the entrance of Muspelheim with a special sword called Laevateinn.

This sword is supposedly even brighter than the sun itself, gaining him the title of both creator and destroyer. It's also said that he'll be the one to bring down fury and fire during Ragnarok.

2 Futsunushi

Finally, the most powerful persona out of all those in the Magician arcana. Futsunushi can be fused only after players have increased the Magician arcana, otherwise known as Morgana's social link, to its max level. With a base level of 76, this persona is nothing to shake a stick at. Futsunushi is the Shinto god of swords and possesses incredibly strong physical attacks which can cause critical hits on the enemy.

1 Confidant: Morgana

Morgana making his presence known in Persona 5

Morgana is responsible for the player's ability to obtain all the personas in accordance with the Magician arcana. He's definitely misunderstood to start, but it soon becomes clear that all he wants is love from his friends, and to be known in some way as a hero - which he definitely becomes! He's the unofficial consultant to the phantom thieves and could even be considered a partner along with Joker. Oh, he also has the hots for Lady Ann.
