Persona 5 The Royal Is Coming To PS4 (But Not The Switch) - New Confidant/Party Member Seemingly Teased

The fans of Persona 5 who sat through the torturous Star and Ours special that concluded the anime series were treated to an announcement… for an announcement. Persona 5 R had its full name revealed and it’s now called Persona 5 The Royal, which will be discussed in more detail during the Persona Super Live P-Sound Street 2019 concert on April 24th.

The trailer for Persona 5 The Royal included a scene showing a brand new character, who is a girl wearing the same school uniform as Joker, except that hers is that of a first-year student, while he is in the second year. The girl is asked by an unseen narrator how she feels about the Phantom Thieves and she says that she appreciates that they are trying to help people, but she doesn’t care for them and that people should fix their own problems. The identity of the girl in the trailer has caused many fans and pundits to suggest that she is a female version of Joker who will be an alternate main character, in the same way that Persona 3 Portable added a female protagonist. The fact that the girl is in the year below Joker and dislikes the Phantom Thieves (suggesting that they have already been formed without her) seems as if it would be too much of a divergence from the original story. The most likely answer is that the girl is either a new confidant or a new party member. It’s also possible that the girl is a villain and becomes part of a team that opposes the Phantom Thieves, one which may be formed by the traitor, but this is all just speculation at this stage.

The other interesting aspect of the Persona 5 The Royal reveal was that it seems to be exclusive to the PlayStation 4, as it’s the only console listed on the official website for the game. The fact that Joker is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a DLC character led a lot of fans to believe that either Persona 5 or Persona 5 R would be coming to the Nintendo Switch, but the only confirmed system for The Royal is the PlayStation 4. Persona 5 also appeared on the PlayStation 3, so it’s odd that The Royal isn’t being ported to that system either.

Atlus has been torturing its fans by putting vague announcements at the end of anime specials, but it seems as if the time is almost here for some concrete information to be revealed about Persona 5 The Royal. Persona 5 is one of the greatest RPGs of all time and an updated version of the game would be more than welcome.

The next announcement concerning Persona 5 The Royal is due to during the Persona Super Live P-Sound Street 2019 concert on April 24, 2019.
