The creators of the original The Golf Club, HB Studios, has partnered with 2K Studios and the PGA league to produce PGA Tour 2K21, the first installment of a series that will hopefully last for years to come. The game was released on August 21st, 2020.

The alternately-named chapters that led to PGA Tour 2K21 were quality games but riddled with shortcomings, such as the lack of a putt power meter. However, in the newest game, many features of gameplay have been greatly improved. Here are some tips to cut some strokes off of your score.

10 Chipping Smart

The default shot a player is given when chipping on the green is meant to set up an easy 'up-and-down' putt. Thus, a player will automatically be shooting a chip that will not have a chance of landing in the hole.

If a player wants to try and 'hole-out' from their position off of the green with their chip, they are going to have to either extend the distance of the chip or club up. Make sure to anticipate the slight bounce following the ball's initial impact accordingly. Stronger clubs will have larger bounces so make sure the point of impact is an appropriate distance in front of the cup.

9 Plan Accurate Approaches

Depending on which club you use to approach the green, whether it be from the tee-box, fairway, rough, or bunker, a player needs to anticipate the resulting roll of the ball following impact. With lower irons and woods (lower meaning more powerful), a player may be wise to have their approach shot's point of impact on the fairway just before the fringe of the green, in order to give proper space for the ball to roll.

On the other hand, with wedges and higher irons, there will be less roll and bounce after the point of impact. So, a player should aim their approach shots closer to the hole. A player should rarely aim directly for the pin unless it is a way of compensating for head-on wind.

8 Use Putt Previews Wisely

Putt Preview in PGA Tour 2K21

The putt preview is a terrific tool to use when first starting out. It allows a beginner to learn how slopes in the green affect the line of a putt, and it helps to avoid three-putt frustration. However, the putt preview function can also be considered as a crutch that is capping a player's skill and ability to improve.

There are no putt previews in online matchmaking. In order to not use putt previews as a crutch, players should only use them when they are completely necessary. For instance, use a preview when your final ranking is on the line or if a putt is absurdly long.

7 Use Clubs With Higher Forgiveness

Although the clubs players eventually unlock have better distance, shot shaping, and other attributes, most of the higher grade clubs have lower forgiveness. This metric represents how affected a player's shot will be by their swing speed.

For example, if a player has a slow swing, then their intended shot will be more harshly punished. So, a player should stick to clubs with higher forgiveness until they become more consistent with their swing speed execution.

6 Use 3 Wood Out Of Sand If Possible

A shot out of the sand with a 3 wood may have a point of impact of slightly less distance than say a shot with a 5 iron. However, the resulting roll of a 3 wood shot makes it so the overall distance of the shot is considerably farther than that of the alternative 5 iron shot.

Nevertheless, if a player in the sand clubs up to a 3 wood and they see their expected distance is something like 3 yards, then they shouldn't take the shot because the ball won't make it out of the bunker. If it is a considerably deep sandpit go with the iron, but if it is relatively flat, then the 3 wood is the better choice.

5 Don't Add Max Arc

Max arc in PGA Tour 2K21

By holding the left trigger, players can alter the arc, fade, draw, and spin of a shot. If the wind is heavy, players should be careful of how much arc they put on a shot. The more arc a shot has, the more affected it will be by the wind.

Additionally, it is very easy to overcompensate the arc of a shot, which results in players having too shallow of an approach and too long of a putt. If a player decides to add arc, it's best to set it about halfway to three-quarters of the way up the scale.

4 Always Check Driver Shot In Tee Box If Default Club Is 'Higher'

In the image above, the player is automatically given a 3 wood in this hole's tee box, although the fairway is relatively wide and straight and could handle the distance of a driver. PGA Tour 2K21 frequently defaults to shots that avoid risk, but that gives players less birdy and eagle opportunities.

Therefore, it is smart to at least check what a shot with a driver or other 'lower' option may look like. Frequently, a shot with a driver can be highly beneficial to your score although it isn't the default suggestion.

3 Upgrade Driver ASAP

There are so many holes in PGA Tour 2k21 where a smidgen more distance on your drive can be the difference between a shot in the bunker and an ace. Therefore, players should look to upgrade their drivers as soon as possible.

However, drivers with longer distance most often come with lower forgiveness ratings. Players need to get consistent with their drive's swing speed before making an upgrade. Nevertheless, the drive is potentially the easiest type of shot in the game to master.

2 Be Wary Of Suggested Putt Power Percentage On Declines In Green

When facing a downward sloping green while putting, players need to be extra careful to not overpower their shot. Putting down a decline comes with different risks than putting up an incline.

For instance, when a player putts with slightly more power than is suggested against an incline, they will still have a chance of landing in the hole. On the contrary, if the player hits the ball with less power than suggested, the ball will have zero chance of landing in the hole and will stop in front of the cup. On a declined putt, the reverse is true: too much power equals an almost definite miss while too little power can still lead to a successful putt.

1 Dress Well

The phrase "90% of feeling good, is looking good" is surely relevant to a player's performance in PGA Tour 2K21. With the game's abundance of clothing options, players should seek out the perfect outfit for their individual style.

Having their virtual golfer swagged out, or dressed in a funny costume, can help players enjoy the game, even though a triple-bogey. Less frustration equals less strokes.
