Phasmaphobia players have found a creepy new easter egg that has Slender Man hanging around the new Campsite map.
The latest update for Phasmaphobia adds a brand new map, a weather system, and twin ghosts, but perhaps the most interesting thing to come from the update is a selection of new easter eggs referencing famous horror icons found within the new map.
The most interesting of these easter eggs is the appearance of indie horror icon and suit-wearing spectre Slender Man. When playing on the campsite map, Slender Man has a random chance of spawning in several different locations on the outskirts of the map. Slender Man won't do anything to the player but stand there and stare.
As you might imagine, upon finding Slender Man players have started trying to find ways to get him to spawn purposefully, but it seems like the chance is random. As reported by Eurogamer, Redditors have stated that there's a "one in three chance to spawn, no special method or technique". However, players have managed to figure out five of the places where Slender Man will spawn within the map.
It's not just Slender Man that's made a cameo appearance in the new map, however. Players quickly realised that the campsite is home to another easter egg - Jason Voorhees' mask floating within the camp waters. It's a pretty obvious reference to the origins of the character in Friday the 13th, but it's a nice nod nonetheless.
Another easter egg has also been found within the map, although this one doesn't seem to be a direct reference to any horror franchises. One Redditor discovered that there's a dead body hiding underneath the cabin. It's interesting to see so much love specifically being put into the campsite map, but the patch notes for the update do indicate that "other locations will receive more detail and more unique objects at a later date", implying that this level of detail can be expected for other maps in the future.
